My girlfriend and I want a kitten. Possibly two. I've been scouring Pets4homes, various rescue centres, Gumtree (feels wrong) and breeders websites. We've been looking at Bengals, Maine Coons, Norwegians, British Shorthairs (that's mainly me though), various domestics, but everyone is either just looking to offload their kittens NOW or I don't trust their adverts. We would prefer getting a kitten, not just for the fluffy cuteness but also to be able to raise the little critter, see him/her grow etc etc. Rescue centre is of course an option, but they don't tend to have many kittens.
Anyway, where would the other cat-people on here recommend going?
I can see the obvious appeal of a kitten, though often, people discount cats that are only 5-6 months old, simply because of missing that "cute" stage.
I'll 2nd ( or 3rd ) trying the charities again. Bear in mind that they may have kittens, but as you might imagine, they'll be reluctant to home them around Christmas. You may have more luck in the new year, when all the kittens who were given as Christmas presents are being taken in.
I personally don't like to encourage breeders ( amateur or professional ). There's too many cats that need homing already. Making money by churning out more doesn't sit well with me, having seen some disgraceful behaviour by some of those selling kittens in the past.

Good luck in your search :-)
