  • Anyone know of a retailer other than SJS who sell the Soma HWY One bars in Europe? Tried to UTFS, but couldn't find anything, and SJS charge £35 for international delivery!

  • Posted in current project but thought I'd mention it here to. I have a pair of Highway Ones in silver 42. Fitted once but never ridden. PM me if interested.

  • 26 or 31.8? $?

  • Want it!

I'd like to know this too... I'm in Lisbon (which is almost just across the english channel) and SJS wants £24 just for s&h which is a bit insane.

    thanks.

  • These are all the 26.0 compact bars that I've come across;

    Bontrager SSR VR-C Drop:125 Reach: 85
    Deda 215 - Drop:142 Reach:86
    Deda Newton - Drop: 135 Reach:80
    Deda Piega - Drop:143 Reach:87
    Nitto M106 Neat - Drop: 128 Reach 78
    Origin-8 Pro-lite compact handlebar - Drop: 120 Reach: 70
Rose Race Attack Compact - Drop: 120 Reach: 75
    Soma Highway one - Drop:130 Reach: 75

Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.

Updated list; Rose handlebar added. Reach for Bontrager added.

  • I have some Deda Piega bars for sale if anyone's interested, 44cm centre-to-centre, 26.0, fitted (to an open-face stem) but never ridden - £12 posted.

  • dam if they werent so wide i would

  • I bought and fitted the Bontrager compacts recently.
    Love 'em

  • 3t Giomondi...sexy time but they're getting pricey.

  • got my highway 1s into a 3ttt single bolt quill with absolutely no problem and no scratching.

  • modolo, the ones I opsted in hhsb thread
    ergo plus compact plus awesome

  • need a faceplate stem though cos theyre a little bitch to fit to a normal stem

  • got my highway 1s into a 3ttt single bolt quill with absolutely no problem and no scratching.

Yeah, I think because I was using a Salsa quill stem.

  • Balls, the only silver ones are those £100 Nittos - did anyone go ahead with the polishing in the end? - bought a Nitto Technomic to raise the hight and really don't want a black middle section.....

  • There's loads of info on here and the web in general about stripping and polishing the anodising off things.

Search and just go for it. Of all the parts to do bars are one of the easiest, you only have to do the visable part.

  • Since they're such a simple shape, I would just go straight to the abrasives rather than using caustic soda or anything.

800 grit paper will remove the anodising with no chance of reducing diameter/wall thickness (unless you go mental on it). Wire wool gives a nice satin finish - or if you want it mirror-polished then go up the grades of paper (800, 1200, 1500, 2000) in a cross-hatch pattern with wet paper, then polish with autosol or something.

  • Sounds like a 'wait till my wife & baby visits the outlaws and stays for the night' job - finally managed to convert my old bad boy to a SS when she went last week. Keeping my fingers crossed that she doesnt wait till xmas. I reckon satin will be fine (unless the technomic is super shiny).

  • I've just ordered those Rose one, curious for what to expect!

  • They're a little heavy but functionally sound :)

  • Aren't Soma HWY1's silver as well?

Or are they hard to get in the UK?

Anyway, I love my Nitto M106's. SRAM levers work perfectly, really no flex in 42cm, and an awesome shape.

  • Yeah, the Soma bars come in silver as well. The Nittos are much nicer and a lot stiffer, mind.

  • ^ & ^^ And a lot more expensive too ;-)

  • You pays your money, etc.

I have the Somas on my commuter and the Nittos on my custom.
