@smallfurry....the walkable cleat is a big thing for me, as there will no doubt be a lot of walking...for me, on the divide. ;]
You're definitly better off with the frogs then. Its essentially the same system as the Bebops, just smaller. The bebop cleats are huge, and poke out of almost all MTB shoes.
The frog pedals are incredibly simple. No springs, latches, etc. So are probably ideal for your use. The 'standing on ice cubes' feeling is proper odd off-road. But it sounds you'll have time to get used to it.
