  • Yep you can go straight through - there're gates at either side but allow access for cyclists. Lovely bit of the ride as you go through out of the traffic. And the road to Windsor as you come out of the park is always very fast too - not sure why but there seems to be a perennial tailwind!

  • Ah, I'm riding west, north, south, east. So I'll enjoy the headwind from windsor to the park then!

Reversed the route. Guess it makes sense to see the castle at the end, keep my spirits up looking forward to it.

  • Bushy park and H.C Palace too. 2 Places I've not seen yet.
    Feeling cultured.

    Thanks for the route ideas.

  • Windsor park is lovely!! The view down to the castle was epic. Shame about west london drivers being cunts.

  • Hi guys, does anyone k know a decent route that provides good training for alpine type climbs? I think Box Hill might be the closest but as many of you say, it's reasonably relaxing! Cheers!

  • I tend to find the best hill nearby that is tough, but not long enough, then keep repeating it as many times as you can, A355 coming out of old amersham does it for me.

  • Where do you live?
I know quite a few, but there is nothing long alpine like.
I'll link a beast a like to ride.

A staple i use close to home, shown to me by sparks is the Fountain drive/College road - Fountain dr/College rd in crystal palace and just knock reps out on that.

Your other option is to find a headwind and ride into that, but that's a bit unpredictable.

Or imo, you're not going to be riding an alpine climb near full gas like you would a little hill here, you're going to be riding it below threshold in a tempo level. So your best bet would actually be to go out and ride pretty hard for an hour - 2 hours, at a pace that is about sustanable for that period and do that over and over. Reason being, it will put you in a HR level that you will be climbing in, somewhere in upper tempo and get you accustomed to riding there and make you stronger. You could always ride at a reduced cadence too, maybe 60-70 depending where your normal cadence is, to simulatle the lower cadence of climbing up a long alpine pass.

  • Fairly new to this CX/muddy stuff, was wondering if there's a database of lanes/tracks that are rideable from Central?

  • I've found myself in Rye, East Sussex for the weekend. Anyone know any decent routes round these parts? Preferably flat..ish.

  • Just head through camber or up military road to the Romney marshes. Flat as a pancake. But probably flooded this weekend. The valley north of udimore road is also really quiet, but a bit hillier.

Thanks for the advice mate. I ended up going up Military road which was really great. Didn't see another car or person for about 8 miles which was a bit different. Explored the marsh and some really great (extremely narrow) country roads.

  • Good stuff. I'll probably be exploring that area some time later this week - were any of the roads flooded? I went through Rickney marshes (same flat bit but further west) today and there were quite a few submerged roads, although none that were really impassable. It was a lot of fun.

Ah I just noticed your name now in the other thread. No, none flooded but very, very wet. Yeah, was really good fun.

  • Looking to ride up to Cambridge from London this weekend. Just having a look on google maps and the majority of the journey is either on the B1368 or B1383. Has anyone been on both and which would they recommend for nice countryside etc? cheers

  • Presumably, you've looked at this?

    cheers man

  • I've looked through these routes and there arent any starting off NW. I can do mapping myself, but where woud you suggest for a 20-25 mile loop from NW. I normally do harrow-stanmore-bushey watford then back, but I'm bored and I need inspiration. Any help appreciated. Ta.

  • where do you live in NW?

You could do this (without the to-from and Regents laps at the end..): http://app.strava.com/activities/36235537
or something like this from Watford:

  • Between Kingsbury and Harrow.
    That Watford one looks appealing.
    Thanks, Dan!

  • Watford one is great (thanks bmmf) - and easy to cut it shorter if 70k is too long

  • Looking for a London to Paris route, for five people, over 2/3 days. Any ideas anyone?

  • Someone emailed me a wicked one.

Was hms. If you can't reach him let me know and I'll forward it.

  • Can someone suggest some routes/rides out of SE Ldn? I'm guessing that means Kent by and large....got me a road bike (almost) and a Garmin so looking to do some longer rides at weekends.

    ta!

  • How far do you want to ride? Do you like hills? Where in SE london will you be riding from?
