Use manual focus and practice a lot, you'll get the hang of it soon
Low f-number = short DoF = nice shots if you like that kinda thing
Slightly less low f-number means slightly longer DoF and easier to keep the right things in focus
I'd consider a dedicated mic aswell, makes a huge difference for videos
