There is a new guy on trafalgar street running a shop called velo vitality. His servicing prices are about half of what the other local shops are charging.

I vote for me. #selfsponsored

the old guy in Strudwicks off London road is always good for odd parts and the like, doesnt charge much and can usually sort you out with the odd cotter pin for a quid or so.
plus he has a proper bike shop, with tools and bike parts all over the place.
also chickens frame emporium for building/frame repairs etc

Baker Street Bikes have been nothing but helpful for me in the past, including a few free bits on more than one occasion, throughly recommended.
Rayment St. Cycles repeatedly tried to sell me an Sram cassette tool, insisting it was what I needed, when I was hunting for a Campagnolo BB/lock ring tool, quite patronising and dismissive when I suggested it wasn't what I needed, especially considering that they were trying to sell me the wrong tool.

Syd's 2 in Hove is pretty good, just don't go in on a Friday as they have staff from the other shop working then and they don't seem as helpful.
Baker St have also given me a couple of bits FOC in the past, nice guys!
Aaron & Kevin in Farm road always have loads of second hand shit and let me rummage through their box of brakes recently, selling me a very nice back brake for a fiver.
Prestige Cycles in George Street Hove looks like an awesome shop, not been in there yet.
I also picked up some bits from Webb Cycles in Portslade, its a traditional, old school shop.
The BMX shop in Baker St (?) off London Road has some really cheap brake cables - £2.99 for a 3m length.
Having said the above, I like Cheesecake prefer to service/build my own bikes its satisfying and cheap!
All the bike shops in Brighton seem to really helpful if you ask nicely!

Best bike shops in Brighton? Thought it could be helpful for people new to the area. Harvey was great at Sydney Street but he's moved on and they're not cheap so sorry Sydney, but points lost for me.
Baker Street Bikes have been very helpful in the past, particularly when one of their guys gave me some very kind and unpatronising advice on how to get a Gatorskin on without destroying my hands.
My vote goes to G Whizz on Brunswick Street East in Hove. Awesome service, really nice people, good value, quick, knowledgable...
Any thoughts / opinions / votes below?
+1 G whizz
or cranks if you're wanting to fix it yourself. -

Just popped along to Velo Vitality and a good chat with John(?), I presume the owner.
Wicked guy, wicked little shop, well worth some local support. -

Who would you suggest for getting wheels built in Brighton?
-
• #12
Though I'm sure it'll surprise some people, I've gotta say Evans are the best for wheelbuilding. Josh is excellent, and last time I checked it was £30.95 including spokes. i.e. way cheaper than anyone else i'm aware of.

Rich (ex-Bake Street) if you can track him down.
Or Mr International is cheap if he has time.

Another vote for myself. Excellent.

For building wheels? I can pay you in mouldy CDs that are sitting in my porch that someone never collected.....
But yeah Harvey, can you build some wheels if I supply hubs/rims?

I have had terrible service from Sydney street bikes, also they treated my girlfriend like she didn't know anything about bikes
Baker st bikes again treated me like an idiot because i asked a question about squeaky brakes and got a moron reply
Evans cycles can be helpful at times but again have treated me and my friends like complete idiots
G wizz has always been tops and very helpfull
I have heard great things about cranks so am yet to try them outHave been riding fixed+single speed for almost 4 years now and its a shame people make you feel like an idiot at these shops
F you

Heartily recommend Velo Vitality as well, kinda tucked away by the station but well worth a peek.

freedom bikes on george street, had the removal tool for a wacky maillard/normandy freewheel which is stupidly obscure and pricey when you find it.
they had said tool and freewheel off in no time. im happy. priceless (but it cost a fiver)

Another +++ for Baker Street bikes who let me in 25 minutes after closing, and just as they were leaving in order to buy a tube on Thursday night, without a single grumble. Saved me going to Halfrauds!
