I have a qr skewer on my polo bike (front wheel, being fixed/free I can't have a qr on back), replaced the lever with an Allen key skewer I had lying around, but played for long enough with an actual lever, as long as you get it flush and in line with your forks I don't think there's a problem with qr levers. Some people tape them to the forks just to be on the safe side.
Defo don't think it's worth building a new wheel just to get rid of it!
You think sl cleats are already unwalkable? Imagine them with an extra cm of metal at the bottom, its like a reverse high heel... If you are thinking for polo, I wouldn't bother. Even those heavy crappy muddy fox (circa £20) mtb shoes from sports direct would be better.
Or shop around you'll probably be able to fine some alright mtb shoes for around £35 (decathlon?)... Much better use of money than the new wheel.
Nice Chobham joke btw! :)
Probably gonna get another front disc wheel for a tourer I am building up, but I might use my current (QR, allen key skewer'd) front disc wheel on that and just get a new, solid axle front wheel for my polo bike. The current one I have with the QR hub is a bit mashed up, play always come back into the hub, moving around the wheel slightly, messing up alignment in the caliper. I've cleaned out the bearings and checked tightness with the locking washers (or whatever they're called) and it's fine for a few weeks but then seems to get messy again. Replacing the bearings perhaps might help? The wheel has seen a good bit of polo and touring now at this stage. The solid axle hub just seems a bit sturdier in my mind's eye.
I have some road shoes that arent being used that much any more, was thinking I'd put them to use playing polo. Hardly gonna be walking around much while playing at throw ins.
