Yes, 578g including fitting, the Berthoud will never come off the bike as the frame is build round the curve of the mudguard.
600g a small price to pay for longevity and strength, only £30 too.
You're right that the other contributing problem is the fitting are inside allowed the murk to tinkle down from the mudguard to the cassette/derailleur via the stay.
