  • Yep. Very fat spider. I've now got Dura Ace 7600s with no issues. 75s would be a good idea too.

EDIT: or whatever top quality cranks you can get for a reasonable price, in good condition off eBay

  • I have track 2000s with the 107mm BB, but 44t chainwheel - any bigger would catch.

  • Dura Ace or 75s seemed to be very overkill for a cheap common frame IMHO.

Does the spider not catch before the chainring?

  • Spoke to a Dolan mechanic this morning and he said that they use the Acor 110mm with Miche Primato but had no experience with Stronglight cranks. Have a BB with a longer axle coming from CRC so I'll see if they fit any better.

I very much agree, this is meant to be a budget build. The Stronglights seemed to fit the bill until I found out they didn't.

  • Dolan FXE MATT 54 arrived today - oh joyy

  • I have super cheap Lasco crankset on mine (cost £40), I find it very hard to feel the difference between this crankset and the higher end one, I will measure the clearance as it seemed to be perfectly fine with the 103mm BB (130BCD).

The most obvious difference is build quality.

  • I think it's a common problem with the Track 2000 cranks. The spider hit the stays on my Bob Jackson just like that.

My Bob Jackson is exactly the same with Miche crankset (144BCD).

Perhaps the fault lie in the fact the frame are not fluted and really idea for 144BCD? (I realised this is an odd problem for a track frame).

    A 130BCD cranks might be a solution.

  • I've got a Dolan Pre Cursa in size 58 (58cm c-t seat tube) with carbon forks, headset and seat collar for sale for £100.

  • Does the spider not catch before the chainring?

err yeah you're right actually, bigger chainwheel may well be OK. The clearance for the spider is just, just OK - so I guess on some frames it would catch depending on manufacturing tolerances.

  • FXE (not mine)

  • My pre-cursa set up... (bars now wrapped)

  • that looks petty neat. need to get a black ring on mine.

  • Bugger, 54cm is realistically 56cm TT rather than the claimed 54cm.

  • If anyone wants real measurements from a real bike give me a shout, we have 45, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60cm bikes at the velodrome. Possibly getting some 50cm soon too.

Without measuring anything, they don't seem very long. Our bikes haven't got massively long stems but they ain't tiny either and we are generally putting people on a bike at least one size up from what they expect/ride on the road in order to get them stretched out properly. If you're using it for fixie skidding rather than track riding this might not apply so much.

  • the 54cm in their website is 130mm headtube and 54cm top tube.

Turn out to have a 140mm headtube and 55cm top tube.

I add 1 more cm because I used it as a road fixed than track.

  • My 52 has a 53.5cm TT as claimed by Dolan and confirmed by myself.

  • what your headtube length?

  • Just measured it at 120mm, this is the reason I went with the 52 rather than the 54.

    what your headtube length?

  • Dolan FXE build by a Danish dude [first full build picture of the new FXE on the interwebz]

  • Took this photo of the Pre Cursa last week and meant to post it earlier.

Obviously not completed yet and just thrown together but gives an idea of the frame colour in blue.

    It is the size 52.

  • nice! you using it on the track i suppose?

  • nice!

  • nice! you using it on the track i suppose?

Yes that is right but mainly for training. I plan to use this one wherever I can find a flat and suitable stretch of quiet road. There is an outdoor track about two miles from where this photo was taken but is seriously bumpy - like a rocky beach, so I can use this bike on it and save the carbon one for the smoother tracks.

For training (on road) I also want to fit another fork and fit a front brake, the track fork currently fitted is not drilled.

Going by memory I think the paint of this blue seems to be better quality than the matt black paint also found on the Pre Cursa but I can't be 100% sure.
