I saw The Master last night. The reviews I'd read and my friends agreed that it's absolutely first rate so I was really looking forward to it, but I thought it was bollocks I'm afraid. Pointless and pseudish with cliched characters disguised by overwrought, stylised nonsense.
Phoenix and Hoffman are amazing in it however, even though the former plays it as if Johnny Cash had never come off dope and Hoffman is his usual cynical, vain, sociopath.

I enjoyed it.. But kind of agree with you.. Anderson yet again returns to achingly beautifully shot and lit (Some were scenes were breathtaking IMHO), achingly beautifully acted tale of redemption motif by two very different yet deeply connected characters.
It lingered with me for a while after leaving the cinema.. Enjoyably so..
