I saw The Master last night. The reviews I'd read and my friends agreed that it's absolutely first rate so I was really looking forward to it, but I thought it was bollocks I'm afraid. Pointless and pseudish with cliched characters disguised by overwrought, stylised nonsense.

Phoenix and Hoffman are amazing in it however, even though the former plays it as if Johnny Cash had never come off dope and Hoffman is his usual cynical, vain, sociopath.

Be interested to hear what others think.

Phoenix isn't amazing - he phones in a 3rd rate Brando impression which left me so infuriated trying to decipher his mumbling, jowelly nonsense, I wanted to shout out loud 'he's a fucking nob'
