I'd say get a short cage mtb derailler before a road one, might be a bit bulkier but they're made to take hits no?

Yeah, saint short cage ones are pretty small for using 1 ring up front. I'd guess they're pretty tough too.

It is a short cage, sora. And pretty cheap so I'm not too worried.

Made this this this week, the most ridiculous bike I've ever ridden.
-1:1 gearing, cut down headtube, straightened forks,145mm cranks, bars that are far too small, extended dropouts, 48h sputniks.
but its fun/incredibly scary to ride.
