  • Same here, in addition to my poor skills and camera.
I think I just need to get over myself, and maybe a faster P & S.

  • In really busy parts of town like in those shots, people just think you're taking a photo of something else behind them. They rarely even notice you.

  • I definitely feel more comfortable with 50mm focal point than a 35mm or 28mm. That helps in how close you get and the style you choose.

Also, pre-focusing ,pretending to shoot something else, and a bunch of other ways always helps. It helps having a mental list of ways to tackle certain opportunities. You need the Afternoon or day dedicated to shooting to get anything worthwhile and be constantly looking for that elusive 'shot'.

  • Start asking people to pose, the more you do that the more relaxed you'll be.

    use 50mm less.

  • Saul Leiter did some great things with a longer lens in the street but maybe it wouldn't be classed as 'street photography'. The latest Acne Paper shows his work in A3; tempted to cut some pages out and hang them!

  • Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a Canon G9 repaired in East or South East London. It just needs taking apart, cleaning and putting back together..

  • sendean? near Leather Lane.

  • Re: using a 50mm on a crop sensor for street, I really like the extra distance you get compared with a full-frame, it picks people out nicely too, almost like an 85mm on FF...

Its a bit limiting for landscape/reportage but it really does force you to frame properly and generally take better snaps.

  • The 25mm Jodie used work out to about 50mm on the camera.

when I said use 50mm less, I mean theorical focus rather than actual.

  • great street shots and lovely GRD shots - all nice on this page

Love the luminous green almost Mickey Mouse Bokeh in that first shot Jody

Are you shooting those from the hip? Great shots

  • In regards to 50mm, I like the focal length in terms of the end result of bokeh and subject isolation. I'm not interested in asking people to pose or getting right up in there face. Not really a issue in terms of confidence, I just prefer the almost voyeuristic type of photo which finds those little moments.

Cheers Eightball. All shots were from the eye (EVF or Screen) and framed, some with no time to reframe and others I had longer time to frame.

Plan to continue around London. With Xmas coming up the streets will be busy and even more interesting.

  • Before I put this in the Classifieds.
I have a Nikon D40, very good condition, bought it off Sparky on here but have used it very little. Comes with the 18-55 , 3.5-5.6, kit lens, strap, battery, charger and card - not sure what size it is but big enough for 500 shots on medium sized Fine quality jpeg. Sensor is clean.
    And a little LowPro bag.
£100, collection in Stoke Newington, N16 preferred.

  • Been playing round with the D80 I got off wiganwill earlier, coupled with a 50mm f1.8 i should be great to chuck in my bag and not worry about.

As will points out is just like having a film camera, you just shoot away and you dont find out what you've got till later

  • ^ best 10 quid spent ever

  • Spots, you're going to start a trend where people break their cameras on purpose...

Very well spent 10 quid indeed.

  • I just realised that it shoots in RAW too even better

  • Can you not just find the d80 menu online and change stuff blind?

  • I could do but I like having it in b/w

  • If its in raw are the files not in colour anyway?

  • ....give me a moment and i'll find out.
