Beer on a stick?
Can you use your everyday bike and tyres on rollers/trainers or do you HAVE to swap out the rear?
-
• #53
Normal tyres are OK on big rollers, but will get wrecked quickly on the smaller driver roller of a turbo or on titchy Kreitler 2.5s.

This guy has the right idea... need to find the song so I can recreate it at home.

That's not even a video.

Have some rep...

• #57
I changed some cranks, it was exhausting
-

It's an interesting approach to upper body work. Do you count each movement of the wrench as a rep, and a pair of cranks as two sets? Have you asked RPM about post-workout nutrition?
-
• #59
I calm the bike through the medium of interpretive dance during the mechanicing session, lest it panic and kick through its stall.
This, rather than the spanner lifting, is what enervates.

Go for a burger at the Dorchester.

Maybe I am..

Oh really? I was looking in to getting a turbo and was planning on just using my every day bike with it. Shame.

Just buy a cheap rear wheel and a trainer specific tyre, it will pay for itself over the years
-
• #66
Yeahh but I know I wont be arsed swapping my wheel over every night when I get in from work. I might just fix up my old bike and use that instead.
-
• #67
^ But for rollers both?
-

I've been using the same turbo rear wheel with the same tyre for over a decade. Had an old Veloce/Open Pro with the 2nd rim getting to the point where I would have to think about replacing it soonish. Rather than building a 3rd rim into the same hub and set of spokes, I retired it to turbo use (no braking). Fitted a £6 cheapoid Vittoria tyre (hard rubber) and the whole set-up looks the same now as it did back then, despite a lot of abuse.
It's a piece of piss to swap a wheel over, and not too much grief storing it either - even if you were planning on doing it every night, which sounds a bit mental.

I imagine its great having a bike permanently set up and ready to go.
That would be great.
I'd also like a roof over the small area I train in.
So I can train outside. But not get rained on. -
• #70
yeah I like outside. Well, i think I do.. it's been about 6 months since I used the turbo in anger. It's looking at me now.. with a "see you after Christmas" kind of look...
I'm hoping for rollers for Christmas. They are considerably less boring than turbo.

They're both pretty boring. If someone started talking to me about either of them at a party or something, I'd ask the host to politely request they leave.

If a party does start to become a bore, hopping on the turbo and knocking out a 2x20 goes some way to alleviate the tedium. -

What about shotgunning a 4 pack of Tennent's Super and then doing Tabata?
Ha! ^
I bought a set of rollers recently and struggle to use them for more than 30 minute before massive boredom sets in. I've use them in the garage. Do I need to take along a laptop or similar with films, music videos or the like to distract myself?
How do you guys motivate yourselves?
