• 2 in 2 weeks.
Pedestrian steps out blindly while on this mornings training ride. I went flying onto my head and smashed the giro up good. Got his details and police attending the scene. Had enough of these people. Hopefully the Evo isn't damaged.

sorry to read this, but you should be watching out for pedestrians

  • Where was this, James? Hope you're ok.

  • Don't blame you. A burgeoning number of cyclists on the roads hasn't changed motorists' attitudes, It's simply got more unpleasant, is getting worse and will continue to do so as long as the Gov insist on chasing 'infrastructure' we cannot build and ignoring the dangerous drivers which we can do something about.

One of the reasons it's getting worst (IMO) is because as the numbers have swelled there isn't anything even nearly approaching uniform behaviour. If there was it would make cyclists as a group far more predictable. People DO NOT like uncertainty.

I got pilloried in the recent past for saying it as I experience it: fellow cyclists are my constant threat on the road (not the biggest but the most frequent). Until we, as a group fix up then it will continue.
Simple things like using junctions properly and not sheepishly herding to the gutter irrespective where you're going would help, otherwise motorised bullies continue to [strike]expec[/strike] demand the gutter is where we remain. Not blindly bottle necking the front of queues@lights even when there's no space to get there or no box.

Careful with that tone, James. I've not read anything about the situation that led to these accidents and you're at risk of sounding holier than...

+1, there is a predictable amount of bollocks on the TV at the moment due to the Wiggins and Shane incidents, quote of the morning on BBBC Breakfast "Sandra has written in saying she just doesn't know what cyclists are going to do on the road".

The response here would be that if she had some cycle training she'd get a better idea of what cyclists are going to do- but still, we as a whole, need to get our house in order in terms of behaving in such a way that other road users can understand what we are going to do next.

Once we remove the "FUCK! Where are they going!" level of fear and uncertainty things, I hope, would get a bit better.

  • fellow cyclists are my constant threat on the road (not the biggest but the most frequent).

    This, especially on my commute.

  • I've had to make a conscious effort to adjust my cycling behaviour over the past 5 to 10 years due to 'the game' changing so much.

I don't mind evolving. It's actually fairly painless.

  • I have video evidence, thank god. I got cctv from the shop over the road, police couldn't have cared less, ambulance were lovely.
I will not put it here, nor explain the circumstances on an open board.
Thanks tom, I'll be okay. Beckanham road, by the hump bridge to teh traffic lights at the station

I'll be calling british cycling for thier advice.
However, is it best to go through british cycling or no-win no-fee to claim against the guy.

Who is Oliver Jeffcott on here? Found him, will email.

Are you referring to the recent incident where you side-swiped another cyclist?

  • If you're a BC member it'll be no win/no fee through leigh day and co, who are pretty good. Oliver Jeffcott is ojeffcott on here. Good luck.

I found I had to chase leigh, day and co to get prompt responses/updates but they did a very good job overall for me in my accident (represented on behalf of british tri but british cycling also use them).

  • Not a BC member at the time, so they can only pass me on to their solicitor, whom would take it no-win no-fee if it's a valid case.
I will contact oliver and see if he can help after seeing the video, forum member first. I guess he'll advise me if i have a claim and if he can help or if i should go with leigh day and co.

  • I've had to unfollow cyclehatred on twitter because ive spent the last 2 hours of work, fuming

Yeah it was just winding me up reading it, even more so than daily mail/etc comments!

  • Why were you feeding the troll? They think people are listening so they're only going to keep posting. If nobody listens then they might realise that perhaps it's them that's wrong.

  • Are you referring to the recent incident where you side-swiped another cyclist?

You mean the bloke sat in the wrong position unwilling to listen to reason? That bloke?
    If so, then NO.

No they will not. The biggest thing that will change them is being hit in the pocket for poor driving.

  • Hit them right in the middle pocket.

  • Cycling home through Victoria, white van pulls out from road on the right, arcs over to my lane and rubs against me. I look in the window, like: "hello?" Driver and passenger both on the phone... I go to jot down the reg and the driver says, laughing, "good luck with that!" I shrug, he had a point, I go on my way.

Fuck London. I'm getting so bored with it.

  • plain white van with no company logos?

Just imagine if the white van had been a beautiful lady. It could have all been so different.

  • Plain white van. Hey, if beautiful ladies rub up against me I'd rather they did it when I wasn't trying to ride home at 15mph. Stationary rubbing preferred.

  • I was very tempted to lean into his paintwork with my bar end as he drove off, but I decided to be British about it, let him leave, tut loudly and ride home seething quietly.

  • @Mu Mu: Judging by your username, you're either Bill Drummond of Jimmy Cauty and I claim my five pounds.
