Is there such a thing a good looking mudguards? I can see cheap plastic ones fitting a mtb style franken beater, but what about modern road bikes?

Do you want steel?
Made in the UK?
I intend to phone these guys:http://www.spencermanufacturing.co.uk/Cycle.html
they have not responded to an email request for west London stockists.

Freshtripe sell some lovely metal Velo Orange mudguards here - http://www.freshtripe.co.uk/Freshtripe/Mudguards%20%26%20Racks.html
I'd have loved a set of the hammered steel ones, but the £23 sks chromoplastics i ended up buying recently do the job perfectly well and dont look too bad really.

Gilles Berthoud make nice shiny stainless ones. SKS chromoplastics don't look too bad and are really effective.

How about this one? Shiney and "good lookin' " all in one simple mudguard

I've been thinking about submitting to the weather and getting a rear mudguard/ fender but two thing stop me:
1) the seat stays on my frame don't have a horizontal thick enough to drill
2) Mudguards are all so frickin ugly!I clocked a really nice, fairly straight, chrome slightly concave rear fender on a bike recently that fixed onto the seat tube and wish to hell I'd made a note of the make/ model!
Anyone hazzard a guess or know any tasteful rear fenders that attach to the seat tube?
HELP!

I think a pair of Raceblades look nicer and are more effective than a seatpost mounted jobbie.

And they don't require eyelets.

• #412
Can you get race blades as Rear only?

or you could just read all the other mudguard threads, FFS.

Ah, that feels good.

Just fitted the sks velo 42 on my girlfriend's Pompino. Really quite impressed as they allow the rear wheel to come out of the track dropouts with out any adjustment to the guard, and were pretty easy to use.

Regular SKS also allow quick wheel changes; use an extra set of safety clips like the ones on the front.

If anyone knows where you can get a Kashimax RainTail from let me know. Bloody marvelous invention, but no-where to be seen.

apart from the problem that they appear to do nothing - great idea but a bit useless by most accounts

Nope, seen them in action, and work a treat. Course not as good as a full guard, but as they fold under your saddle and invisible when so, brilliant if you get caught out.

I.e. I have my practical bike (SA hub, full gards and front rack), but if I want to take my bling bike out, and find myself caught by a passing shower, I could use it, but when folded away it wouldn't affect the asethic of the blingness.

I have one - major problem is the saddle rail as it's a very specific design.

That they do, but check before you buy.
Yeah man. They may need some bits (i.e. zipties) to get mounted again.
and the blimmin screws.
