Completed MOH: Warfighter last night - had pre-loaded so it was unlocked at 11pm local time, had completed by 4:30am on hard (including say...a few deaths/replaying sections - and one glitch where I had missed an enemy and couldn't understand why I couldn't progress was stood staring at a wall for 15 mins).
Not bad. Very linear but in a pretty filmic way so I didn't feel bored. I think it tries to be a little too earnest at times with subplot but it's kind of refreshing for a game of its ilk. A couple of nice plot turns and the cut scenes were beautifully rendered - there were a few moments when I thought I was watching a video clip (Apart from eyes, which no game in the history of games has EVER managed to get right).
One thing I will say I was impressed with:
Traditionally for first person shooters (that aren't from the Battlefield stable) it's rare to have vehicles. I remember playing Enter the Matrix years ago and, while largely enjoying the universe it created, thinking that the clunky vehicle sections were a complete letdown. Not because of poor control, although that was an issue, but because of the hideously realised landscape and physics. The cars were solid blocks, and the roads like a bobsleigh track. If you hit an object, that was it, mission over.
Here, although the controls for the occasional driving missions were still a bit clunky and although there was, largely, a fairly specific path you could follow, the actual environment within the path was fantastically realised. If you hit a car, you didn't stop suddenly and have to reverse/start the mission again. You just hit the throttle and barged your way through. I remember thinking in several instances that it had been well created for a change.
Again, a tiny detail in the game but I was happy with it.
Driving boats was still shit.
Haven't played multiplayer yet though it looks fun.
