Not as bad as this year's 650b promotion though.
I assume she's
got a bigger headtubestiffer front endtapered steerera lot faster than you then?Significantly faster due to her massive double gussetted flange. I shall report back tomorrow

Good luck tomorrow!

Dunno individual times yet, but third in overall team placings, was broken by the end tho, more fitness required

That sounds like a pretty good result to me.
What is this "fitness" that you speak of?

All this chat about hardtails has prompted me to post mine - a Cotic Bfe. Used to ride a more lightweight XC-orientated bike, but wanted a bit more AM heft without losing the qualities of a hardtail. So far I'm very impressed.

anyone want to come to Swinley on Sunday?
Tom. and myself are planning on going (subject to the weather not being totally shit)

Just preparing the bike for Sunday.
I had tried to just replace the chain earlier this year but the rest of the drivetrain was not happy with the new component - lots of slipping under load. New parts for entire drivetrain were ordered months ago, and arrived promptly but not installed. Finally got round to it and discovered the true extent of the damage done by Swinley sand and mud. Comparing new to old chainrings showed quite how much both had been destroyed by the gritty residue.
Am hoping the zinc coated Shimano chain will fare a little better but this may just be a false wish. Swinley may be a cheap place to visit, but the wear and tear it causes is fucking expensive.
Am trying the Pro Gold lubricant to see if it will be any better at shedding muck and avoiding the chainsuck I was getting using a wet lube. As Gabes mentioned, 10spd MTB drivetrains seem to be troubled by this, would dread to think what Swinley would do to the new Sram 11spd drivetrain, but I guess there would be less chain slack due to the one chainring.

Have you considered a singlespeed?
;-)

could easily be done, and may well go down that route next year for winter, but too late now.

Obviously the terrain there would dictate the size of gear. However, I have no experience of how hilly ( or not ) Swinley forest is. My favourite thing about singlespeeding off road ( when I'm fit ) is just how quiet things are without my chain clattering about over every bump.

Swinley is my local riding haunt, very singlespeed friendly. 2:1 is perfect, but I also ride 36-16 a lot and that's fine as well.

Coming out to play on Sunday?

Sadly I'm up in Leicester at yoonay so no Swinley for me until December :(

Eek. I find it hard work on 27/15.
It's singlespeed friendly only in the sense that you're always either climbing a steep hill or going down one, so you can gear for the climbs and coasting is plenty fast enough coming back down.

^ +1 It's still a mountain bike.
I assume it's not just your pub/beater bike? ;-)
Interesting but kinda boring at the same time.
