• Fair point. I suppose the ham fisted will destroy these things regardless. My thought was that the problem could arise from the high torque used around that area of the bike. Crank/chainring bolts, bottom brackets, pedals..

    I seem to remember reading somewhere that set screw EBBs were best used in steel frames, as alu or ti frames had a higher likelihood of deforming if overtightened. Don't know how much truth there is in that. Perhaps split shells are better suited to those materials.
