  • BTW if anyone knows of any good veggie places in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka please do tell... the mrs. is worried!

Eating veggie in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka is tricky but doable. I spent three weeks there and didnt die and Im vegan. I basically just used happy cow to look places up and see which were closest to where Id be rather than aiming for specific places most of the time.

Theres quite a few places in Tokyo but these are the ones that I really enjoyed:
Loving Hut - Amazing food, super cheap but very odd opening hours and quite out of the way
Pure Cafe - Lunch deals are great value for money but the rest of the food is pretty $$$. Still the food there is awesome so its definitely worth going at least once.
Brown Rice - I never actually went to this one but it was highly recommended by another vegan friend of mine.
Freshness burger and Mos burger both do pretty tasty veggie burgers and they are literally everywhere. The fast food joints in Japan are on a whole nother level to the UK so dont be put off by the fact that they are just burger chains.

For some reason I cant remember where I ate in Osaka, which is odd cos I spent well over a week there.

Kyoto I just day tripped from Osaka so again not much help there but I had planned to go to Proverbs but unfortunately after trekking all the way out there it was closed for some sort of staff training.

As a whole though, if you get stuck there are heaps of indian places so you can nearly always find curry. Another good tip is 7-11/lawson/familimart/ etc etc etc all sell plain riceballs so if you need a quick snack thats a good bet. The plain ones are the best bet cos the other ones can be filled with virtually anything you can imagine and then some.

In short happy cow is your friend
