  • 46/36 rings to go on later today, then the Winter Bike is ready.

  • They the 3t ergonovas?
Do they flare out in the drops? Whats the difference top and drops measurement wise?
Want to try some to see the difference to the wing pros.

  • Yes, not noticably, don't know.

I have them on all three of my bikes, quite like them.

  • Cool.
Don't think there would be much in it, in the real world. Their measurements are basically the same.
Although some people profess to hate one and love the other.

Will get some 40s and 42s to try out over winter.

What's the boardman for, beyond commuting? Rings are small for road and big for cyclocross no?

  • nah you could just clamp it down it will be fine. But if you want you could shim it with some coke can

I bet I can predict where you handlebar will snap. :0

Rings- yeah, not great in terms of ratios available, that is why I am swapping them to 46/36 with (probably) a 12-27 block.

That would mean I could swap the Apex mech out for (say) a Rival short cage that would make the shifting a bit snappier.

It was bought as something to use for light CX -for example I would like to end-to-end the South Downs way, probably next year now- and possibly some CX racing, but the majority of it's miles were intending to be, and have been, as a winter/poor weather bike.

It's a heavy old Horace, but when it works, it works well.

  • New frame has been picked up by courier, it's now on its way to me... Collecting 10sp Record hubs tonight...
This bike is coming together way quicker than anticipated... :$

Maybe I should upgrade the groupset...

    this

1.4mm is not the same as 0.4

after reading, looking and googling a bit i quite like the cx team version. price is well, looks good, now i have to look for a distributor in germany as wiggle doesn't have the xl in stock

  • No. You could take the bus.

If the lever is 25.4 and the bars are 24mm where you clamp it... yes you'll have to shim it.

Didn´t mean to be anoying, it just wasn´t clear to me what B0N0R was talking about.
    Thanks for the help anyway.

    i don't run a brake man

  • Its been a long time since I did something with bikes but recently put this together from loose parts I still had lying around. The frame is an '80 peugeot Y10 i got from a forumer some time ago. The bearing balls of the headset got lost at some point so that still needs sorting and the other thing still bothering me is the brake cable. I just dont seem to get it sorted so that it leaves the lever and enters the brake straight.

  • hahahah come on! that brake on that bike, you must be kidding me!

  • Looks awsome! And I love the magura(or is it a defaced delta?), but what is the dyno hub connected to? Well, obviously nothing yet, what are you planning?

  • guess weinmann delta. look really cheap and shitty...

  • The brake is indeed defaced delta, i had a complete set NOS but i cant seem to find the levers and the rear brake. While fiddling with the adjustment of the brake and the cable it looked better without the front plate, kind of goes better with the frame that way.
The front wheel was what i found in the shed too, there was no intention of having a dynamo on, but now that im thinking, I might lik it up to the led lights in the seatpost i made years ago thats on my other bike right now. That could make for a light id never have to turn off again, with a lipo battery in between... only need some kind of charging circuit hmmm will have to look into what i have lying around again and dig some old stuff up.

  • I'd just like to say that I love my mudguards.

  • Are they Bontrager?

My raleigh is the first bike I've had in years with full on (not clip on) guards.

    loving them too.

edit: probably not, yours don't have a flap on the back and have a light/reflector....

  • SKS Chromoplastic

  • Just need to check but will a UN26 bottom bracket be compatible with a Miche Primato Advanced crankset?

  • ^ Not really. Primato is ISO taper and UN26 is JIS.
If you install an ISO crank on a J.I.S. spindle, it will sit about 4.5 mm farther out than it would on an ISO spindle of the same length. (source: sheldon)
You can do it if you have to, but it'll mean you'll have to bodge chainline

  • and if yu somehow manage to correct the chainline, dont leave your house without 8mm allen key

    ever

the above means that you can indeed use the two together as long as you make sure to get a spindle that is exactly 9mm shorter to compensate.

  • False. We've been through this a million times, it's one of the few instances where Sheldon was wrong.

    ISO = JIS + 2mm

The extra 2mm is a 1mm x 45° chamfer on each end of the ISO spindle.

There are other problems with your assertion that Miche use ISO BB spindles, all the evidence points to their switching to JIS at some point in the past when they changed spec from 110mm ISO to 107mm JIS, probably due to a change of subcontractor. Miche cranks give standard chainline with 107mm JIS BB, although I'd avoid the UN26 and spend the extra £5 to get a UN55
