With regards to wheel size trends, to me it seems 700c is only popular because in the States it is hard to find compact 26inch frames.
So track frames and 700c replaced the common mtb.
To me, 26 has a lot more benefits, especially considering the sizes of the courts (even the large ones) that we play on.
That said, it doesn't really matter either way, and personally I find that adjusting contact points are the only things that make a considerable difference.
