Actually that does look clean, but a 60k bike will need an engine rebuild real soon, and new shocks right now. CBF500s seem really pricey for what they are - I guess because of the training market.
Maybe spend a bit more and get this?

I saw a bloke riding one of these yesterday and was reminded just how cool they are

Yamaha TZ 750
4 cylinders of 2 stroke goodness.
Hot! Used to know a chap with one of these. Apparently the first 500 rpm of the powerband added 60bhp!! Oof!

Sparky, if the idea is to get a not too powerful bike for the two first years, I would personally spend a lot less. You find "decent" cheap / learner bikes for around £500 / £600 (Suzuki 500GSE)... Relatively bombproof, you are not stress about scratching it, or parking it anywhere. Then when you are ready to get something bigger, then it will be the time to spend more.

Due to the general french strike on the other side of the channel, blocking boats, roads, petrol stations, restaurants, cinemas, sex shops, supermarkets, hotels, etc, our trip to France will have to be postponned to next year, spring 2013. Just blame the communists...Tanya, BlueQuinn and I should be able to get either our booking transfered to a new date or changed into a credit that we will be able to use in 2013.
Grosses bises a tous!

That gives me enough time to get my license and something bigger than a 125!

Me too, so I won't have to hang on the back of the Suzuki.

Shame to hear about the trip being cancelled, if it means more people next year that could be some positive I guess?

I am recently dreaming about custom bike build on a base of Thunderbird Sport. -

I've spent months trawling about for a first bike but they all end up having a catch. I'm a it sick of the hunt now, guess I'll stop thinking about it for a bit and come back to it when I'm excited about the idea again.
I'm sick of everything being a "project" too.
I just want a reliable bike for getting around/to and from work etc.
Kinda thinking of just getting a Sinnis Trackstar or a Vespa or something, just coz it'll be brand new, have a warranty etc.

I'd looked at a Vespa. Fine around town, and at a push I could head back to Norfolk on it as long as I wasn't in a hurry.

Blasted the Kat down to Compton, the other side of Guildford on the A3, on Saturday with my girlfriend as pillion. First time she's ever been on a trip out of London on a bike or at over 100mph (only when it was safe to do so).
I loved it, the bike loved it, my girlfriend loved it. Car drivers wet their pants.
We came through a storm and even saw a rainbow on the way back into London. Then bumped into (not literally) Corny coming through Clapham Junction. It was a grand day out.

I never like riding with pillion. I wonder what is the secret here?

This has only had one owner and it's clearly been well looked after, no couriering: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170919155595?nma=true&si=E49epFmLRG%2Bx7sjCj0nW%2FLzxWLo%3D&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true
Thing is, there aren't many bikes that actually appeal to me. I like the Hondas, Triumph Bonnevilles, Moto Guzzi V7, maybe the Kawasaki W800, but that's about it. The idea of a CBF500 appeals most because it's relatively cheap, I learned on it, and there won't be too much power to get me in trouble for the first couple of years.
Buyer let him down. He's just offered it to me for £1,200... Thoughts?

That's more than the auction ended at. Cheeky cunt.
Offer him 900 and walk away if he doesn't take a grand. -

He's been a bit liberal with the 4000 mile service intervals too. It may not matter as the mileages were racked up quite quickly between some of the oil changes. Does look nice.

I've offered £900 and it sounds like he's walked away. He's having a nightmare selling it, by the sound of it. A mate is also selling a G reg CB1 with 18,000 miles, 12-month tax and MOT, for £900...

Odd that its back on ebay at a higher price than it finished at?
If he won't take 900, i'd walk away.

I can see it from his point of view: he's had it since new, looked after it reasonably well, and it looks tidy. But it's also done a lot of miles and he's selling it just as winter arrives...
