  • Did a test build of a frameset I got recently. I used mostly existing parts for now, so everything doesn't match perfectly.

A track drop would look nice, but I'm not sure how that would ride. The steering is really sensitive, not really surprising I guess, as the head tube angle is very steep, and I also measured a reasonable amount of rake on the fork. I'm meaning to try whether more reach in the cockpit would help to tame the handling a bit.

By the way, I'm looking for a suitable more or less period correct 32h hub set for this, high flange campags or something similar (wanted ad here).

  • Cross-posted from Any question answered... Nice job on the Merckx, Dan!

    Thanks :)

  • Rode the Merckx on Saturday - it's beautiful. Although I felt a bit cramped so I either need a layback 27.0 or a longer stem, or maybe both. Obviously all the stretching I've done over the last 7months has extended my reach :)

The difference between the cinelli crit/xa quill and the modern oversized deda Newton/zero combination is staggering. So much stiffer and combined with new pedals, saddle and wheels it feels like a completely new bike. Very happy indeed.

All I need now is a campag compact for winter gearing..

Such a nice frame, get those wheels sorted!!

  • Such a nice frame, get those wheels sorted!!

Thanks, and I try to, I've already got some nice rims. I don't expect I'll do too much riding on this during the winter, so I should have plenty of time to look for the hubs.

  • No fucking way??^ that looks godlike and I can't even see all of it?? Moar!

  • This thing is hard to get a photo of. It's actually retina disolvingly vivid, fluo-pink, electric-salmon. It's visible several streets away but the camera just can't quite fathom it.

It's a bit of a mess but I'm working part by part to get it in good working order without it being out of action more than an evening. It's the new commuter, hi-vis for the winter city riding and the plan is cheap but reliable parts.

The frame is actually quite nice...

I like this :p guilty pleasure

How about painting/penning/taping the MSW in the mean time.

  • Does anyone have any tips for loosening stuck bolts? I tried to change my chainring but the bolts are all reeeeaaallllly stuck. I would usually just crack open a fresh jar of HTFU but I'm worried about rounding off the heads.
