  • I would quite like a pipe.
    Where's good to get one?

Leeds based, but ace mail order.

Start cheap, go for something you like the look of.

The Chap magazine do a good starter range that I fancy sampling.

Bump - this is tomorrow evening. Any takers before I give up my +1?

  • I've got a spot and had forgotten about this, so thanks for the reminder. Do you know what the cigar is? I don't know if there is a new Edicion Regional.

  • No idea, but I'm looking forward to it.

Spare place is still available by the way.

  • There now. It's quiet. The list looks small :-)

  • Cigar is a bolivar of some kind.

  • Right - mini review:

The cigar was a Bolivar Belicoso Fino, and was beautifully smooth all the way down, starting off mild and aromatic, and warming up nicely with a fruity, complex second half. The idea was to pair the first half with the first cognac and the second half with the second.

The cognacs were amazing. No other word for them. Both from Thomas Hine, the first was their Antique XO premier cru Grand Champagne. This was light and fruity, and delicious, with a smooth finish. Matched with the cigar it developed a nice spiciness. It paired really well, with neither the brandy nor the cigar overpowering the other, and each enhancing the flavour. The second was their Cigar Reserve, created with Hunters and Frankau. This was more woody and sweet, with quite a subtle flavour at first but a long spicy finish. Great cognac, almost whisky-like in its character. I thought it drowned out the cigar to some extent, but a nice enough drink. It did somehow make the cigar taste more smoky, which is an odd thing to say. Must be due to the extent to which it opened the taste receptors

We got a nice talk from the H&F guy as he unwrapped a stogie and described the different leaves, where they grew, how they effected the flavour, how they were wrapped, etc.

I'd do another of these tastings - I thought during the Suntory one how well the Yamazaki would go with a cigar - but it was bloody cold tonight so I didn't hang around. Maybe in the spring.

  • There is another cigar evening at SWC on Wednesday the 6th of March

The evening will begin at 6:30pm and include a Havana cigar paired with the four expressions of Brugal rum.

Tickets are £25 p/p for non- members (£15 for members).

    Who's in?

  • I'm building a bunch of cigar box guitars/ basses/ Mississippi drum machines for a reclaimed wood/ recycled event in September. Has anyone got any wooden cigar boxes or any thin wooden boxes they want to get rid of? Any donations gratefully accepted. Pm me please!

  • Time for a spring herf?

Wednesday 26th March there's a cigar tasting evening at the Soho Whisky Club

    Anyone up for it?

  • I'm up for a herf, I've started breaking into the humidor lately. I can't make the 26th though.

  • Cigar aficianados, I am looking to buy a humidor for my Dad. Humidors seem to range from £20 to thousands, as far as I can tell. Is there one around £50 which anyone knows to be the dog's bollocks? Or is it just as effective to get a kilner jar and some humidity regulating gizmos to put inside? I guess he needs to store about 20 at a time

  • Here's a thread that hasn't seen action in a while.
I haven't smoked a cigar in a few years now, and doubt I will do so again, so I'm giving away my cigar stuff to anyone who wants it and can collect from Bethnal Green, Southwark St or East beers.

There's a nice, if plain, looking wooden humidor, with cedar lining, an analogue hydrometer, and a digital one with temperature display. Also a bunch of old tubos for taking cigars out and about, a 3 cigar leather case, a pocket jet lighter, 2 little disc humidifyers and a load of oasis for humidifying. And a tupperware box that fits inside the humidor, because to be honest, that was better at keeping them in smokeable condition than all the proper kit :-)

    Anyone want it?

  • I haven't smoked a cigar in a few years now, and doubt I will do so again

So no more New Years or birth of sprogs (yours or other peoples) on the horizon?

  • Forgotten about this thread and my cigars.
my humidor hasnt been opened in a year or so. probably horribly dry cigars in there.

  • Just noticed that there are some cigar lovers in here.

    So.... 9 boxes available

Partagas Aristocrats - boxes of 25

    Give your price per box.

Bought from Cuba by a friend and boxes are fully new/sealed.

  • I want to get two cigars for a friend, spend about £40, and I want to be able to buy them in central london. Where should I go and what should I buy?

  • TomTom in Elizabeth St would get my vote. They'll have better advice than I'll be able to give.

  • thanks
