  • yea i saw that, 99% of the classifieds (anywhere including ebay) are from USA, is it because they were/are never launched in the UK?

Also, how much do they cost in Edwardes?

It's between them and Rotor 3D BB30 for me.

  • They are not cheap. Convert $ to £ and that's about what you'll pay for them, new.

I had a fairly difficult time finding anywhere in the UK who would sell them to me- On Your Bike just told me to "buy them off the Internet", rather than them going to the effort of them ordering them.

For the complete set, including BB, axle etc you're looking at around £700, more if you go for ceramic bearings.

  • fark thats expensive! Rotor 3D then

  • Advantage of the Rotor is that you can use them on more frames as they have a much longer axle, so converter kits will get them onto Cervelo's etc.

Disadvantage is that they are (alleged) to have ripped the design off, but there you go.

Good cranks, certainly, if you can live with the graphics.

  • I have race face decadance on my fixie, dont even start on graphics :D

  • Amey - also worth looking out for the S-works carbon crank. It's not fugly like the Rotor, stupid light, stiff enough and it's very easy to service with it's Campag style hirth joint design. I like mine a lot.

  • Spammage:

    Dammit.

I'm not one for gushing over others machines but that is wonderful. Everything I've ready about that frame is extremely complimentary, had it not been that it's no longer sold in the UK I prob would have gone for the boardman.

Really very nice mate, hope to see you at Muddy Hell? ;)

  • dont want a carbon crankset, the theme for this bike is sort of top quality Alu stuff ; )

  • ^^^ Howard. THAT is fugly to an extreme mate. Not sure how you think that of rotors either.

You should prob have your eyesight tested.

Hah - you are a charmer, aren't you? It's all personal taste.

Here's a different take on it - just for you.

  • Very similar to the Lightning crank I believe- to the point that some people have interchanged parts.

It is the Lightning crank, yeah.

It's a shame this is only coming up now. I'm flying back from Seattle this afternoon after a month here, and could easily have packed a crankset in the suitcase if you had ordered it and shipped it to my office.

    Maybe next time.

  • If you go back and forth then I may well have a favour to ask you in future.

  • I should be here every 4/5 months. Probably not for this long each time, but maybe a week or so. I'll put a shout out when I know the next time.

WW parts only. No bits that'll blow my weight allowance.

  • Cool, let me know- parts will be lightweight for sure.

  • I had a feeling that might be the case.

  • WARNING! Dullness ahead, only relevant to a question I was asked about the Cannondale Hollowgram cranks mentioned upthread: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8131181@N05/sets/72157631758354066/

Photographs show the difference between the standard and the SRM axle, the latter is designed to move the entire crank assembly 1mm toward the drive side in order to accommodate the SRM hardware.

If you have a large carbon fibre BB area you will need to use this, possibly with the special SRM bearing shield which will move the crank further toward the drive side.

I've used the SRM axle with a standard bearing shield on my road bike, and standard axle with standard bearing shield on the cross bike, somewhat oddly.

  • Friend of mine completed his Cotic to replace the Boardman. New bright green colour, SRAM Rival.

Not sure how much it came in at in total, but F&F is £450 with the carbon fork option.

  • Abet expensive (£1500), but the disc version of the Grand Fondo look fantastic;

  • I loikes thaht as well.
I found another valid argument for discs this morning............................punctures. All that crap from rim brakes in the wet is rather fun in the cold, don't you think?

  • That BMC is rather nice. Wonder if I can convince myself that I need to spend the extra 600 quid over last years cannondale.

  • their seat stays are getting weirder ..
