I've been looking at barends (all too pricey) and 'rapidfire' shifters too, but can't find anything for 3x7 anywhere.
If I could get these in 3x7 it'd be perfect.
Not much good for you, I realise, but I have a set of these http://velospec.com/components/shimano/slm511 that I'd sell for £10. 3x9 though.

As someone very new to threadless stems, can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for a decent-ish second hand one, and anything I should look out for?
(Apart from clamp size!)
Cheers. -

Ok, I have two pairs of Hollowgram cranks, one is the Si version, the other is the Si Sl.
I am currently reinstalling the Si crankset.
This requires torquing the crank bolt to 40Nm, but I don't have the ever so common 8mm hex bit that this requires.
But- I do have a 10mm which fits the Si Sl cranks.
How about I borrow a crank bolt from the Si Sl's, do the crank up to the correct tightness, then swap the crank bolts back afterward?

What chain is that?
The only black and gold chain I know is an Izumi super toughness, but surely there's more black and gold track chains out there.

HKK Vertex comes in gold/black as well.
But I am sure there's others... -

"super-toughness"

Ask Velocio or Hippy. They can lock threads.

^ good, hah

I've installed the SRM, sans threadlock, but then the BB30 bearings need to be replaced so I'll apply the 242 then.
Currently running one red crank bolt and one silver, I'll try to pick up an 8mm hex bit that will work with my torque wrench tomorrow.

From free to £150+, depending on which stem you're looking at. You should be able to get a Richey Pro or similar quality Taiwanese forged stem for about £10 unless you're after a weird size. Make sure you get a 4-bolt face plate and a 2-bolt steerer clamp unless you have a very good reason to do otherwise, the load spreading provided by distributing the hoop stress over a greater length of the cylinder provides more security (i.e. no creaks or slips) with less compression (which breaks things). Most stems have a stack height of about 40mm, but there are a good selection of taller ones out there at about 44mm, so be careful if your steerer is short.

Got an old Brookes B17, the tensioning bolt snapped, bought a new one but fitting it seems just out of realms of possibility. Has anyone on here managed it? How??

Cheers. What Tester said, plus be sure to tighten the bolts gradually in turn rather than doing one all the way up and then the next, etc. Preferably with a torque wrench (particularly if there's any carbon involved).

what are you trying to secure? the ssl price i mentioned secures a website
https://www.rapidsslonline.com/rapidssl-certificates.aspxand pki... i thought you were an IT guy, if not PKI may bust your chops a little
It's only a test cert. Anyway it doesn't matter I got access and sorted out the proper cert. Wildcards in the house. Thanks anyway.

I'm sure there's a thread on repair stands but I can't find it.
Is this any good, any other recommendations? Cheers

The one you found looks like it might be the same as the one Fox found: http://www.lfgss.com/thread84108.html#post2831128
but the pictures are so rubbish it's hard to tell.
