Personally I don't think he really gives a toss about his "legacy", he's got 7 WDCs, been in F1 for 3 decades and is still doing pretty well (when he finishes a race at least). He's competing with people far younger than he is (some of the field today weren't even born when Schumacher first started racing!) and in a very physically demanding sport, he's doing pretty damn well for his age!
Like I said, if I could physically keep up with the rest of the field like he can, i'd be more than happy to stick around racing cars and getting paid quite a nice bunch for it. Sure the money isn't the reason he's doing this, he doesn't need it. But it's a nice little bonus. Also, people asking for him to "move over to give the seat to a younger driver", screw that, drivers should earn their seats.
