Physio said last night that I may be able to run short distances in about a months time. He said I'd start doing just 500m a few times a week, I'm excited even by that!

^ cracking news! I've struggled with a bad knee, still could cycle but only for so much, know the frustration and the joy of getting going again

So - time for new shoes.
Is weight important? Can I get a really light pair of shoes? Does it make a difference?
-
• #3805
Lighter shoes, less cushioning, not recommended if you're recovering from a knee injury or doing longer distances. If you're doing really fast track races, worry about weight.
-
• #3806
Lighter shoes only make a difference if you train in heavier shoes, as kl says weight reduction comes at the expense of cushioning and support.

Doesn't sound like its for me, my knees are whimps so needs all the protection there is. Or none, should I go barefoot.

Another 10.2 today. Should've gone a little further I think.

17km today... I've really been struggling to get back into this running lark and yesterday's c.10k was just miserable - I've not seemed to be able to shake the feeling of heavy legs and general antipathy, but today was lovely - pure bliss. Best run in 6 months or so! Granted it was slow but the speed won't come until I start enjoying it again.

Finally got round to buying a roller. I now know where my IT band is.
Ouch.

Just out of interest, I used bikehike and photoshop to compare the profile of the route I ran Monday night (blue) with the upcoming Ealing half marathon (red)...
It's quite weird how similar they are, in shape if not elevation. Am happy that the training has been North London and the race West rather than the other way round.

Not run in ages and watching the rugby yesterday had me itching to get back out on the field (abstaining until after the wedding so that I can remain pretty).
Went out this morning thinking I'll get a couple of miles in, ended up with 5.3 which I'm happy with

Didn't have time to run all week, but did 11.7m this afternoon. Not going to do much else before the half on Saturday now but keep stretching.

8 mile run this morning. Still recovering from my night ride to Brighton so this may not be pretty.
Edit: It wasn't pretty but it wasn't ugly either. 8.02 miles in 1:19 on my Garmin brick or 8.08 in 1:21 on Endomondo. I started my cooldown before stopping Endo completely, hence the distance/time difference. My route took me up to Crystal Palace and back home via Covington Way. I deliberately ran Covington Way twice which clearly shows I was mentally unbalanced for a spell!
A torture session on the roller, stretches and food intake in two parts and I'll be ready for the second half of my Sunday.

I should be really pleased with 1:43, it's almost exactly what I was expecting. I'm slightly disappointed tho' because my right calf tightened up about 6 miles in and made the second half much more uncomfortable and slower than it could've been. The difference is clearly visible on the splits. In hindsight, that's really not a bad time for running half the race with an injury, but I'm sure I could've cracked 1:40 otherwise. Certainly didn't feel like I was struggling for energy.
Good morning tho', well organised and enthusiastically marshalled. One annoyance was a 15 minute delay of the start caused by some divot apparently crashing their car into a lamppost on the route.
Am hoping the leg recovers in time for the first of the Regent's Park 10k winter series next weekend. At least that doesn't involve a 25 mile round trip on the bike.

bloody good effort, bad luck with the leg, next time ;)

First run for 2 years. Just got sick of the time taken to get ready for a ride and the time I need to ride for.
So - shoes, shorts, t shirt, stretch - running. 3miles. Return, shower, change, done.
I love running - pity my joints don't.

Is anyone looking to sell a running Garmin? At the moment I use my Edge 200 but I'd like to be able to see pace, do intervals and wear it on my wrist rather than tucking it into my shorts. Just don't really want to pay ~£150 - anyone got an old one sitting unused?

Can't help you Sparky. Sorry.

No worries, worth a punt. If nobody has one I may get a new one. Hopefully signing up for a marathon after this half so it'll be worthwhile...

Get a 410, not a 405, which is, by all accounts, a bit shit.
-
• #3823
I've had a 405CX for a year. Other than the bezel thing (which I barely touch while actually running) being a bit shit it's been fine. The 410 looks practically identical, what's been improved?
-
• #3824
I had to factory reset my 410 to stop it trying to navigate me on a route which I'd deleted.
-

I have a 405CX and like it pretty well. The bezel is difficult to use when wet (either rain or sweat). Cost ~£130 a year ago
9k done. Went round Victoria Park from Dalston. Lovely run, sun's getting warm, not much traffic, felt like the yellow man
