  • The science behind that seems a bit sketchy.

    Reducing rotational weight.

It's an axle... and regardless of whether the bulk of the pedal is on the pedal or in the cleat it's still going to go around whenever you pedal.

Hurts my head trying to work out the advantage.

Sure, reducing total weight might be arguable... but seriously, moving weight from pedal to cleat isn't going to do a great deal when the in-operation setup will still see the same weight moving.

As folk seldom hang there shoes on the scale when taking WW pics of their bike. It makes a massive difference.

....now if the could make crank arms a plausable part of the cleat......

  • ^^what even is that?
    Looks like a dentists mirror.

  • rear view mirror to attach to glasses

  • The monday after a rugby weekend I literally cannot look over my shoulder. So it was nearly a serious want.

  • VeloMonocle™

Adds gravitas when talking about rotating pedal mass whilst riding.

  • Saw a chap with one yesterday outside Waterloo.

Every time he wanted to check behind himself he had to adjust his head to the same angle as the special kid in my primary school, and hold it for a time in order to focus.

I could not help but think that turning to look behind him would be quicker and safer.

  • Those tiny bar-end mirrors work ok, and are less goofy (which isn't saying much).

  • It's a focal length issue I think- as we get older we lose the ocular muscle tone that allows us to swiftly refocus from very very close (mirror) to middle distance (typical cycling), so it introduces a delay.

As these are typically sported by greying cyclists, that is.

  • Those tiny bar-end mirrors work ok, and are less goofy (which isn't saying much).

We followers of the scoble use bar end shifters. So no go.

Looks like a real step towards becoming part of the Borg.

  • i remember an article proposing that it's actually safer to look around behind you, than to use mirrors, as the driver of a car behind you then sees your face, realises you're human and takes more care while overtaking. looking can also indicate where you're going i think (along with hand signals of course)

  • agreed. Looking over your shoulder is a great indication to cars that you might be about to maneuver

  • A new fixed hub from Hope?

  • that possibly just a hope sticker ?? an old one too, they would have done laser etching like the pro 2's and evo's if it was new.

  • I found it on the hope facebook page. Just saw this comment by them which explains the old logo.

    • Hope Technology Ltd This hub was in production in 94/95. We need to look at making them again. Possibly :-)
  • why can't they make bolt on instead!?

  • Bolt on would be better ( if they ever make them again ) I think I'd prefer to see the splined type. Mainly for the adjustable chainline.

  • ^ but the cogs are £15. Bolt on would be piss easy for them to make as they already have fro disc hubs the could use

  • Just because you and threads dont get on

  • they're wank

  • I just dont understand you you strip so many cogs/ lockrings

  • i have the arms/thighs a god

  • now we both know thats not true.

How have I never stripped a thread?

  • You have basic mechanical skills?

    #sickburn

  • Oooooo spotter aint gonna like that
