thats the usual british response, the director of football/technical director/general manager whatever you want to call it has worked successfully in european football, why wouldn't it work over here.
Clint, you'll love this, but look at West Brom, and Swansea as too examples over here, where you have this system to a certain extent in place, and you can see the solidity of organisation it can offer. And long term stability and success is what all teams crave isn't it.
Just because we've been in hock to the manager as auteur/deity doesn't mean that with the right people it won't be able to succeed, look at how Benitez got all control freaky, when he had total control of Liverpool and how you kind of rolled downhill as signings weren't made and if they were, they didn't settle/play up to their abilities.
I'm not saying its perfect, but with more continental managers being wooed, it seems that the days of dismissing it as something they do over there, that will never work here are soon to be gone..
