I wanted a CX bike. (like everybody else at the moment apparently, why am I such a conformist?)
But I could not sell my track bike to finance it so I decided to build one with £0...
I found an old gas pipe mountain bike last week. Heavy, slack geometry, ugly, but free so I am not too picky.
Brought it home, secured the basics: could not see any cracks, the frame looks straight, stem and seatpost were a bit seized, but nothing that a paint stripper heater gun and a vice could not arrange... Good, let's the frankenCXbike project commence... I don't have 650 mountain bike wheels in my shed, and CX bikes are 700c aren't they. So I fitted an old pair of 27X1/4 wheels on it, clearances are big enough to take it, except that I can't use the cantilever bosses anymore, but I'll try to modify them or use some old mafac centre pull calipers I have somewhere... A saddle, drop handle bars, and boom, please see the atrocity below... It is going to be fun!
I know it is stupid, but I've done a beater like this before (I mean a MTB frame with 700cs), it's totally rideable, despite the weird geometry and a BB shell ending up way higher than it should be... I can't wait to finish this!
