Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I'll put up some 2011 stuff tomorrow. Unfortunately there's only about a dozen photos.
Then hopefully we'll be up to date & going out live on Wed/Thurs :-)
Stay tuned...

As always BN I'm impressed. The workmanship going in to this shows it really is a labour of love.

^ Cheers spenceey. More of a love/hate relationship I'd say ;-)

Ok, today we move onto 2011. Circumstances stirred me into returning to the project & so, bit by bit the insulation slowly went in. Then the board went over ( even more slowly ). Much painting followed & the inside brightened up a bit.
Vertical battens were then attached to the inside of the brick wall so that I could fit more insulation & board them over. Everything was then moved outside while I painted the concrete floor.

It looks like a house!
Me and Mrs. Spenceey are looking to buy at the moment and some of the rooms aren't even this nice!!
Will it be warm enough in winter? Any plans for a heater? Or is that dangerous and I'm being stupid?
Another question - with regards to security what plans do you have? Also are you covered when it comes to building insurance?

I have some of these tubular greenhouse heaters to keep the damp at bay.
They're about 2ft long & are 120w each to power. They have a built in thermal cut-out to stop them overheating & burning everything down.
I can pm you some details regarding security if you want. You can understand that I don't really want to broadcast those details on a public forum ;-)
Needless to say, although this is a low crime area. I don't wish to take too many chances with the contents.

Final two pictures from last year. The guttering has all been finished, but I had a torrent of water pouring down from the gutter above. Basically the whole roof & gutter of the carport ( to the left of the garage window above the shed ) needed replacing to fix that problem.
The leftover rubbish had finally been taken down to the tip, which was nice. I also did a bit of mini landscaping out front. Planted some grass seed, laid a few slabs & planted a beech hedge in front of the crappy old fence between me & the neighbours.
Oh, & painted the wall.
^ The timber is lying outside, as I was painting the floor at the time.
I took some new photos a few days ago. I need to sort through them & get them on photobucket & then you can all see the current state of affairs ( still not finished )

One last thing from 2011. Calling in a decent tree surgeon.
^ This pretty much did in my build budget for the year :-(

Ok folks, we're all up to date now. Still not finished, but I've been able to use the shed to rebuild my bikes + have somewhere to escape to now & again.
^ The threat of the Eucalyptus tree collapsing on top of me has been dealt with.
^ The carport roof above has been rebuilt & the gutter replaced, so no more waterfall hitting my roof.
^ All looking a lot tidier now.
^ The beech hedge has survived it's first year & grown a tiny bit. Also the hedgehog box has been rebuilt for the Winter.
^ What could be going on in there?

I'm totally in love with what you've done.
I just spent two weeks (with a few days break in the middle) building the most simple of DIY kit bike sheds in my garden to hold 4/5 bikes, so I absolutely marvel at your ingenuity and workman skills.
There's something incredibly addictive and rewarding about building with your own hands, I'm inspired to build my own workshop now!

Thanks BP. It's certainly been an experience I won't forget in a hurry!

So impressed with this mate.
Hope your doing better now. Looking forward to seeing this take shape even more.

Any chance of some shots from inside, where your bikes are hanging and the workspace?
-
• #145
Come on in.
^ Current workout space.
^ This is the corner where the bikes will hang ( not built yet ) Plenty of plywood for Toolboard, cupboard doors, etc
^ My single power outlet. There should be a lot more of these soon.
^ Spare bike bits.

Wow!

^ You can see the temporary lighting arrangement hanging from the ceiling. Hopefully soon to be replaced by some fluorescent tubes.
^ This big pile of timber behind the bike will eventually become the workbench. This will probably be an early Winter project that I'd really like done before Christmas. I'll try & document it's construction for those of you interested in building something similar.

^ The blinds are really good at controlling the amount of light that I'll have to work by. I went for lighter ones that would diffuse the sunlight, rather than block it out completely.
The worktop is only temporary, until I build the workbench. It gives me an idea of what's a comfortable working height. I got a bit sick of laying tools out on the floor & losing them too.
^ The lower parts of the worktop are recycled from a pair of huge drawers that I made for the wardrobe where I used to live. Just turned up on their ends. I'll convert them into storage cupboard & attach doors at a later date.
-
• #149
^ Last two photos to show off the doors. I only use one of them for most of the time, but if I need to move bulky things it's useful to open them both. It's also nice to have them both open on a Summers evening while I sit with a beer.
That's it. You're all up to date now. I'll try not to keep you waiting too long before any further progress is made.
Still to come will be..
- Fitting light & power sockets
- Sorting out bike storage
- Making the workbench
- Extra storage
- Toolboard
- Small edging jobs ( things like adding some skirting board, tidying up the joins between boards - especially the top of wall/ceiling join )
& probably many other things.

stunning work
Wow, very moving post.^^
Not to mention the work shown in this thread. This has definately got me motivated for my very own man cave build.
Looking forward to more updates :)
Edit: I seemed to have thought page 2 was the end of the thread... doh.
