Doh, got some nice 1990's vintage Shimano SLR brakes for the commuter, and they don't fit right, even with repeated adjustment and swapping of parts. The front one needs a longer bolt to go through the fork, and the rear one rubs the brake pad on the tire, even with the pads at their lowest setting. I'll hang on to 'em though as i might find a way to use them on the commuter or my next project.

if your frame was designed for 272 wheels and you are now running 700c then you'll need deeper drop brakes.....alghonga (or however it's spelt) are ok as i run a set on my ss
