Yeah, the black pudding throwing was on the Sunday, but we we're there for the Saturday. Really nice place, Ramsbottom. Lots of decent looking pubs and they've got their own microbrewery in town.
Lush.

I've been to two festivals this year - Deershed Festival and Ramsbottom Festival. I know they both have an animal in their names, but there's no fettling of wildlife involved, I can assure you.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed.

Nice chocolate cafe too, and some great slopes to ride up (The Rake being the highlight). Only ever passed thru for work tho, so not tried the boozing there... reminds me I think the steam train there has a decent pub at each stop, saw a guidebook about it perhaps?

a flavour of Number 6 here, beautiful setting and no sponsors as far as I am aware. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.318835508214532.69839.188717114559706&type=3&l=53be6a50fe

no6 was amazing. music and setting was sick, and the crowd was probably the nicest ive seen at a festival

I was at No.6 on Sunday, working, and from my point of view it was a disaster- poorly organised, poorly managed and appeared to be massively undersold. I guess alot of people left as the weather took a turn for the worse but I would imagine that they lost a phenomenal amount of money and it probably won't happen again next year....

Hey Gregory - I agree there was a degree of disorganisation, but it made it a nicer experience in some ways.
Yes, it undersold, max capacity was 7000, they sold around 5000, some of those at 2-4-1 prices.
Yes, the weather affected the Sunday with many people leaving and some of the bands being cancelled because the organisers didn't want to electrocute any band members.
Will it happen next year? I suspect it will - this was a test event with a huge amount of financial backing, it wasn't expected to make a profit, it was to test the site for suitability. As long as the council and villagers are happy with the way things ran this year its likely they'll agree to it again in 2013. The organisers have several other main stream festivals and can afford a loss on this one.
What were you doing on Sunday? And why did you think it was poorly organised?
Just interested...
Feedback on social media suggests that the vast majority of punters at No6 thought it was pretty awesome.
I'd go again next year for sure.
Cheers

I assume you work for them in some capacity? I am aware that the company behind No.6 is also behind the Warehouse Project in Manchester amongst other things, and that it probably wasn't expected to make money- but considering the strength of the line-up and the relatively small size it really should have sold out. Why didn't it? Because Portmeirion is just too far/remote to get to, and the actual site made very little feature of the village- it could have been a generic field anywhere in the UK. Outside of the site there is nowhere nearby to go for shops/food/somewhere warm. Alot of the bands (and myself) were also at Bestival the previous weekend, which although is in an even more remote location it is considerably better served by public transport.
Even if the festival was sold out, they would have lost money- production costs/artist fees etc. etc. far outweigh the maximum income they could have made which makes me think that it was probably little more than a tax write-off. Cancelling bands for their own safety shouldn't have happened, the festival should have been better prepared for poor weather- after all its in September and in Wales. And finally, I am a tour manager for one of the bands that played the main stage on Sunday.

Hi Gregory - thanks for your reply.
I don't work for them in any capacity, however, I did meet a couple of folk at the festival who did work for the organisers and I like to ask questions! I was with one of the Sunday bands but only in a friends of friends capacity.
I too was surprised at the strength of the line up given the limited revenue available from ticket sales - The cost of the bands, DJ's and comedians plus the huge outlay for the site, the infrastructure, security, crew etc any added to the huge costs involved in putting on this festival.
I don't know why it didn't sell out, after all it had huge pre-publicity and endorsement across a variety of media - festival fatigue, slow economy or as you say its just too far for many people to get to.
I disagree that they made little use of the actual village - did you go down to it? It was only a short walk away and was a real treasure - a lovely stage on the beach (Estuary Stage), The Stone Boat and much much more. The Woodland raves were also exceptional fun. Really, it wasn't at all generic in any sense. The Castle Hotel and Hotel Portmeirion offered great hot food at reasonable prices served on real crockery!!
Have you heard the BBC Radio 6 show from the festival - they seemed to love it as did many of the bands they interviewed.
I think that gven the success of this year the organisers will look to change the dates for 2013, I heard talk of May bank holiday (either one).
New festivals are always a learning curve for the organisers, I think they got this one just right for punters - but hey thats just my opinion!
Cheers

Is this the Ramsbottom up near Waterfoot? Never thought of it in that way if so.

...I agree there was a degree of disorganisation, but it made it a nicer experience in some ways.
A large degree I would say.
Reminded me to get a refund back for my paid-for proper beds which were supposed to be "there" and set up.
The prospect of spending the festival with no beds or bedding was not "nicer"...
Hours later we got emergency-just-bought-at-the-nearest-town blowup mattresses and some polyester duvets. -

Let's hope they don't bother next year if they're that poor at organisation .
