From my personal perspective I don't go to SEs as often because I have a new job with long hours and the little time I do have (normally one night a week) I end up doing other stuff with. Its nothing to do with the pub. Its just that I have a job now.
Two weeks ago we had three new people turn up to SEs but everybody else was having tramp beers so they soon left.
I don't feel that SEs is dead.
Kinda the same reason here really. Been working like a dog from May onwards, then there was the Opening Ceremony, and at the moment I'm really enjoying having the odd evening free.
I will be back, and I think it's a great spot, really like that little pub.

So everyone likes the Albert, but they wish more people turned up. Saying that, they themselves are too busy at the moment to go.
Glad we sorted that out!

:) Lack of suitable seating at the albert when I've been gets on my tits, mind. but I like the beer.

As I said earlier I don't think SEs is dead...we just have quiet weeks. The Albert is a very nice winter pub...

Just so people are aware of my views, I like you all and I enjoy drinking with you on Tuesdays, but this 'debate' about venues does my head in.

Repped.
Most people seem to like the Albert. However, many of last years SEs regulars have experienced changes of circumstances. Me included.

if we're suggesting a change, what about the Old Haberdasher on Lewisham Way?
It used to be good when it was called the black flag not sure about now when they changed owners.

The Cambria. Has an SE post code...
Yes but a SW outlook and also the original beautiful, wonderful pub has been destroyed by a bunch of trendies with no taste -

This.
Also I like the telegraph that Kate mentioned, nice pub. Don't know the other suggestions.
Please you lot don't let SEs die before October when I can come again. I am looking forward to it to a childish extent.

thresher (traditionally 'freshers') week is a gathering of college/university students from the surrounding areas at local farms to sift through the threshings (hay/wheat that has been harvested) to separate out any small animals/rodents that might have been caught in that years harvest and killed to stop it spoiling when stored over winter.
traditionally as a token of appreciation the farmers would let the scholars keep any animals they found as meat was expensive and scarce especially for students (much like today).

^ This was done with a threshing machine:
It's just another weird English custom.
Although if you can't be bothered with the freshing, you can buy rat meat in Dalston. Fact.
