At what point is it required to replace cycling clothing?

Any recommended padded half-finger gloves? They're SO expensive here I think I may order from Wiggle.

I have had a pair of the Specialized BG gloves for 6 years that I have worn lots and that I have washed a lot as well. They are close to being replaced because the velcro fastener is starting to go on one of them. The palms are fine.
