Hello peoples,
Finally finished this build. Frame was bought of Dandy, thanks for that!
Took for a long spin today and and very happy with the ride. Running on 49:18, feels like a good all rounder ratio for longer rides and also city riding, gets a little spiny when up to speed though.Front wheel is tubular so i don't think it'll be wise for commuting. Thinking to get Vittoria Pitstop just incase the tub gets a puncture. Anyone here used them before? or I might just have to bring an extra tubular wheel and glue..... -

Sleepless night so i'm going to think out loud about my Gazelle, if you also have some time to kill, any opinions are very welcome.
I want to set it up so i don't have to keep tweaking it or upgrading and so on, It needs to be versatile, so i could just do a short 20 mile ride cruising down some country lanes to the next village, also be able to keep up on some club rides and even be able to do 100+ mile rides comfortably.
Bars- I already Put some of those compact Bontrager bars on it, so much comfier!
Saddle- Don't really want a Rolls any more, thinking either a Flite, Brooks or just find a nice modern one?
Mudguards- these Curana mudguards have a nice clean look, i quite enjoy riding in the rain so i'm sure they will come in useful, maybe theres some other nice looking ones i haven't seen?
Rims- I know i need new rims and it would look much better to, just want a simple low profile silver rim, thinking the popular mavic open pro?
Gears- really not sure about this part, i know i want to be able to go down to about 40 gear inches and up to 100 gear inches and i'm fine with the down tube shifters, but i can't decide what option to go for, at the moment i have a 6 speed 13-24t uni-glide cassette and swap around between a stronglight 36t-48t chainset (which i do like using) or the original 42t-52t, so my options i can think of are...
-Triple ring crank set with the original 6 speed cassette, just worried about the chainline and extra hassle, but it would have a huge range of gears.
-New 8 speed 12-26t hub and cassette and maybe put a 39t chainring on the origanal chainset, but not sure if my index d-t shifters will work with 8speed?
-Go old school and cheap with a 14t-28t freewheel and the original chainset, i just find my self swapping between the big and little ring a lot with that set up and it can get annoying.
-Just fit some 39t and 49t chainrings on the origanal chainset and make do with 43 gears, which i'm sure will be just fine anyway, just nice to have the option to go even lower if i come across a huge climb ...or i just 'bonk'Done.

I saw Dan on the train the day he was sending this off, beautiful frame glad it's gone to a good home and not some douchebag!
Build looks good, have you considered Nitto RB010's or similar? The saddle to bar drop looks pretty intense with your bars...

Fair point!
How is the Raleigh?
Stiff and fast.
Haven't ridden it since Brighton, got a slow puncture and I've been busy enjoying the Panasonic.
Fitting a carbon post and twin Hed's for a ride out tomorrow... Looking forward to going fast.

I'm not surprised its stiff and fast, that huge industrial down tube and gusseted rear end must transfer rider power incredibly well.
Please take pics with it craboned up, that must look menacing with that setup!

You need ones specially adapted to drop levers. I've just started using these and they're brilliant (though pricy). Huge difference in braking power and modularity compared to cantilevers.

Picked this Goldtec hub up off eBay for £30. Looks the same as the Draco model. Going to run rim brakes, not disc, but figure it doesn't matter.
Just had a few questions about it before I go ahead and buy the rim and spokes to build it up:
- Will it be able to run a 10-speed SRAM road cassette?
- Is the wear from the spokes on the holes normal?
- Will it make a decent road/touring hub, seeing as it's meant for MTB use?
- Will it be able to run a 10-speed SRAM road cassette?

My current project is getting used to riding in Manhattan if you thought Londoners had very little self preservation New Yorkers practically attempt suicide with every road crossing. My first commute in traffic involved two near misses with peds and one car door with in mm. I have also had to glue BBs all over my bike and put a stupid chain through the saddle.
That all said it is a lot of fun and williamsburg bridge has an incredable view from the top.
Any way CSB and all that carry on...
Fair point!
How is the Raleigh?
