26 years of riding motorcycles have taught me to use stainless steel wherever possible except when it's mating with aluminium and then use copper-slip. Don't rely on the electrical circuits for any form of security - for that use things like a bricked garage, paranoia, big dogs.
High grade petrol does make a difference but only if your engine needed it in the first place - flat-slide carbs and open air filters will help help your bike make its mind up on this. A high flow fuel tap will seal its decision.
You get less precious the older you get. It's not that you don't care as much it's just that you realise that whatever can be broken can be fixed.
A ride away from London for a couple of night is a great idea, l'm up for that :)
