The Catford Tavern is miles away though. Would be a good way to put off anyone who doesn't live SE, especially in winter.

I'm not sure how norths would feel about having their drinks in Frien Barnet, for example.

There is no 'usual rule', the pub is chosen based on where the people are and where they want to go. If Norths wanted their pub to be in Friern Barnet because they all lived locally, they'd probably all be quite happy about the move. It would be more of an issue to those who cycle up there from SE or elsewhere, who would just have to HTFU.

Once your audax bike is built up it shouldn't be a problem getting to the pub, even if it is as far out as shudder Catford.
