  • not on a frame that has porn potential!

  • Perhaps time to fit some proper brake levers?

  • Indeed. I had aero levers on the last bike with only one hooked up, and I may well put them back on this. I thought I'd try it without them for a few months to see how I get on. I'm so used to hanging onto aero's that riding feels very strange and insecure without them, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

  • Still hasn't gotten anywhere. Does anyone have an idea of what bottom brackets they took in 91? Tried an english threaded chorus but did not thread to my big surprise.

  • possible a JIS one?

  • I thought JIS was just the square taper dimensions.
Was your Chorus "English" too small? or was the thread too tight.
If it was too small, the only options to try are Italian 36mm or some form of oversize (e.g. 48mm).
If it was close but just a little bit tight, the likelihood is that you have an ISO/BSA clash going on....
Although ISO & BSA are officially interchangeable they are not identical (BSA is 1.37" and ISO is 1.375") - same pitch.
    I'd imagine a 'dale would be 1.37" and a campag BB 1.375"
Most sane people approach the fitting of a BB with some caution.... it may just be that you need to be brave (or alternatively get the thread chased with an ISO tap)

  • Just finished this on Saturday. A replacement for *my trusty red Roberts that recently expired*.

    What happened?

  • He gave it some watts and the Roberts folded up like a pretzel

  • Did the fail come that little hole in the front lug? Can it be saved?

Roberts don't fold like pretzel, god dammit!

  • Mmmm. Pretzels.

Lovely, get some aero brake levers on it! (maybe one of the faux levers for the side not hooked up to anything?)

too small yeah, almost goes in as they do and then it popped out from the first thread to my surprise. Would have thought it a 68 for sure :( Wish the 91 catalog would be a bit more specific but this should be the one. http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?id=80d4bc7a-5539-4d81-ae2d-d853603cc6f6

  • What's your plan for the Cannondale? Just curious because mine needs some work and I can't decide whether to just replace a couple of bits or whether to basically change everything.

  • 9 speed veloce commuter for winter duty. Or perhaps single speed. Not keen on spending a 4th winter on a track bike. Never been in London during the winter however so I'm not sure how bad it gets here

  • Aren't you Nordic?

  • ^^cool, thought it would be something like that. Somehow reluctant to put Campag on mine tho...

Yeah that's probs a good shout man

  • Speaking of SS-winter-rides. Got this resprayed 1991 BJ CX Reynolds 531c on eBay for 100 gbp incl. shipping.
Built with Mavic Aksium I got off my geared Empella CX (70 gbp bought used), which I am going to upgrade with new Campagnolo Khamsin (on sale in Denmark at moment).
Got the saddle and conversion kit from a fleemarket held in Copenhagen this weekend for 10 gbp .
The tyres are Kenda, but I would like to upgrade to Challenge grifos og fangos as I think tanwalls will compliment the Burned orange color.
I found the bar tape in a dumpster and will likely change that for something darker when it wears out.
Cinelli stem was 15 gbp used, bars free from a friend and headset and seatpost came with the frame.
The Frogglegs I had laying around, but I will change them when I get some money...
All in all a great ride for ca. 230 gbp.

  • I like that a lot.

  • Excellent!

Agree with you on the Challenge tyres, should look really quite smart, all in time to get proper dirty as any CX bike loves to!

  • superb! Thinking of making something similar myself

  • God I wish I had a job... Am seriously contemplating selling my mtb to fund something like that...

seems like a good time to plug my freecycle mounts...

  • That BJ looks good, how big is it?

  • 8 inches and proud.
