Which decent casual SPD shoes? Dzr, Chrome, Quoc Pham, etc

Exactly like that.

To be fair it's fine outside the city, but having to flip the pedals round without the aids of clip/strap make it a little hit/miss.

I use a530's, and I used to ride clips. Clipping in is as just as fast with these as with a double sided pedal, because they're usually in orientation you left them in. The front lip is easy enough to find and flip the pedal with if not. Also, the platform side is grippy enough to use temporarily if you are somehow caught out at the lights.
