  • ^ the Sauna regulars asked after you!

  • Stealing towels again?

  • Dude you seem to have not read the majority of my post before last. I mention one dj playing tunes at the big chill and that is all you have focused on, whilst conveniently ignoring the other bits which mentioned the live performances, breakestra, digable planets, etc.

I'm never going to say I'm all about the live performance, most of the time, I find them boring to be honest, people standing 1984like staring at a stage off in the distance. Yeah a live performance is unique, but that's not to say that they are all mindblowingly amazing, and worthy of remembrance, dodgy pa's. lackluster performances, an inability to pull the crowd along with them, or all of the above and more.

You think live performances are the be all and end all cool! But a dj who can take you on that journey from a-b, and keep you dancing non-stop without the aid of chemical assistance is a rare thing. And your understanding of going clubbing with the list of caveats you have supplied makes out to me that you kind of never enjoyed it in the first place.

Corny, I didn't mention the none-dj bits because I'm obviously in agreement with you about that.
I also agree that some live performances can be dull and sound shit. Especially at festivals. Like I said I like an indoor venue, on a smaller scale. I want to see the musicians at work.
The original line up of Duran Duran playing to a few hundred people at Kentish Town Forum was the most amazing gig ever. The same band at Earls Court was a bit dull.

No I don't like clubbing anymore. I am too old to dance all night and I don't know any of the newer music. Plus everyone fit is probably half my age. These days I'd rather go to a nice pub, sit down, drink ale and talk shite.

I used to go clubbing regularly, but wound it down over the years as a)I never did pills and some music is definitely written by and for the mashed. b) It got more and more expensive, c) It got more fighty, d) I aged and stopped having as much energy. Mostly d.

I went to more indie clubs but stopped going to them as a)the age gap between me and the students got so great that they were going crazy to Nirvana because they thought they were the ones to discover it, and b)It got tiresome having coked up embryos trying to hit on my wife and giving me grief when she left with me. The general trouble with indie clubs is that people only dance to the tunes they know!

I was involved with the lounge scene and used to be a regular at Club Montepulciano, which was the best club night ever, but they stopped doing that years ago. It was never the same after Bill chucked them out of the Rivoli Ballroom and the promoters lost interest a couple of years later.

  • Stealing towels again?

I'm sure he argued he was only borrowing them...

  • Fucking love fests!

Dance music is total shit though.

damn! I missed Sasha... Thanks for the replay

  • if im on my own, i lose the confidence in that situation. I find it unnatural so dont know how to react other than to scamper to somewhere where i wont be bumped

I have no such problem, but I'm not the best looking chap in the world so after a few hours of dancing I inevitably look like a crackhead in cold sweats - few girls seem to go for that look.

  • I briefly chatted with a guy who'd just arrived by bike from Croydon on the Friday (i think, mentioned the led rides that'd arrived Thurs)... might have been you? It's the interactive stuff that makes the festival, e.g. pedal power ska stage. The Electro Space robot dude by the Ferris Wheel was brilliant, if you saw him?

Was gutted earlier to chop off my crew band for another year, bring on 2013.

Yep, that was me, good to meet you.
I had a nasty headwind for the ride back, but happily the rain held off and once I was over the chilterns it was fairly easy going.

Nice one, good to meet you too and Chapeau for riding home afterwards not jumping the train!

  • Last couple of years I've been experimenting with riding everywhere I possibly can, it means the pace of life is slower and trips have to be planned, but it makes the world feel alot smaller in a good way.

  • Festival number 6 was pretty amazing this weekend, set in Portmeirion where the prisoner was filmed, it was a surreal place to be. Spiritualized / New Order / Primal scream headlined, well worth a visit next year. http://louderthanwar.com/festival-number-6-live-review-picture-special/

  • How times change.

Never thought I would see the day festivals were deemed uncool.

I guess that is because the capitalists have realised their potential.

    A higher return than crops.

  • The TLDR; result of the research that we did (6 focus groups, 6-8 people semi-randomly selected) basically said that people did feel sponsors were being a little too pushy, but would still tolerate more in-your-face marketing if that meant ticket prices would be lower. There is obviously more to it than that though...

    Thoughts on sponsorship and prices?

I think the OP was bang on with his thread title.

Don't be slagging Sasha young man ;-)

  • Hey Boo - I was at Number 6 as well - what a magical place for a festival!! There was too much to see and do and I know I missed loads of things.

It was the best festival I have been to just for the sheer variety of things to do, the surreal surroundings and the wonderful people who just seemed amazed they were there.

Well worth the 7 hour drive from Brighton and I'll be going again next year!

I'm a massive fan of The Prisoner - I'd have loved to go to Number 6!

I've been to two festivals this year - Deershed Festival and Ramsbottom Festival. I know they both have an animal in their names, but there's no fettling of wildlife involved, I can assure you.

I honestly thought I'd never go to a festival, as I assumed they were just a place for massive pumpers to go so they could boast about being off their tits while setting fire to a chemical toilet, but Deershed is so fucking chilled! Real ale aplenty, folky type music mixed with some livelier stuff, great food, a fairground for the kids and a circus Big Top filled with tonnes of kids entertainment. Really varied and great fun.

Ramsbottom festival was similar - small scale, really chilled and some ace music. I wouldn't go to most festivals out there, but I'll be attending these two on a regular basis.

    ^ Me too!
Back at work today, with some major festival blues...

  • 7 hours Brighton to Cornwall? What were you in, a go kart? It only takes me 8 hours Aberdeen to London!

  • 7 hours Brighton to Cornwall? What were you in, a go kart? It only takes me 8 hours Aberdeen to London!

Yeah, but a lot of that is on motorways. Brighton to Cornwall you're doing 28mph all the way behind a tractor.

I came back from Norfolk to Yorkshire a couple of weeks back. Took me nearly five hours, averaged about 30mph. Bit of nightmare journey, and to top it off I got a fucking speeding ticket for doing 60 in a 50 zone on the A1.

I think I only hit 60 for about 200 yards of the whole journey. I was gutted.

  • Who said anything about Brighton to Cornwall?

Festival No6 was in Portmerion in North Wales. Without any stops it would have taken about 5hrs 40 mins. But we stopped for breaks and petrol.

    It really was epic!

Two more festivals for your consideration this year - Playgroup just outside Tunbridge Wells, it will be amazing, nothing like any other festival you've ever been to: http://www.playgroupfestival.com/

And if you like Cider the Apple Fest at Middle Farm is just crazy: http://www.middlefarm.com/apple-festival.html
