Wouldn't turn by turn navigation work with just audio? So you can stuff the iPhone somewhere safe and then have a small speaker / headphones somewhere?

Wouldn't want to crash with an iPhone on my handlebars + I doubt that the batteries will last more than a few hours if the screen is to stay on + data + gps?

Yeah, I think you could happily have it in your rear jersey pocket with headphones, but for some reason I fancy looking at the screen.

I agree with you on the safety point, but if it secures well I think it's actually pretty well placed unless the bike ends up upside down...
