Interesting thread. Download was ace this year IMO.
Disclaimer: I did market research for Ticketmaster + Live Nation and got to watch most of it from the sound deck / stage plus free beer/accomodation/travel/passes etc etc
but I would have paid to go too. great experience and was my 1st time at a multiple day festival.
I do know what you mean though.
The TLDR; result of the research that we did (6 focus groups, 6-8 people semi-randomly selected) basically said that people did feel sponsors were being a little too pushy, but would still tolerate more in-your-face marketing if that meant ticket prices would be lower. There is obviously more to it than that though...
