Aha, well I have serial JV15712 right here which is August 1982, it's the one on the right below (shit pic, sorry).
The one on the left is exactly like yours, I've had it 20 years, it's a late '82.
My guess yours is about April/May/June 1982, just pop that neck and you'll find out. A very cool JV P-bass you have there.

^^Those Gibson MM's were top value. Nice workingman's pedalboard too. I'm after a Pedaltrain Mini to mod if anyone's got one...
They pop up on eBay. I nearly went for one, but wanted the ease of packing everything on one board including the wah.
I also wanted a spare space for flexibility (soon to be filled with a POG) -

Id be cool to play with other people sometime though, I once tried with a friend, but our music tastes are very different

Any folks in need of a DL-8 delay looper?
Currently trying to move one on to a more appreciative/talented home than mine.

This is a stupid place to ask this question, but a number of the guitar build forums are US based, and I'm after a specific recommendation for the uk.
Anyone here refinished guitars with nitro using spray equipment? I know Ben's done a couple of electrics... I dont really want to use spray cans, as i've picked up some requests (for a strat clone and a flying v) from my dad and brother (can only end in disappointment for them...) and using spray cans as I've done in the past is unlikely to be economical. Anyone got any recommendations for what kind of spray gun / compressor to use?

That way madness lies from what I can tell.
I've seen people get really impressive results with home set-ups but (like you've found) mostly with stuff it's easy to get in the US rather than here. That coupled with my reluctance to be spraying noxious chemicals in the same areas where my kids play has led me to stay away from it tbh.
Maybe look at getting a Preval? They're supposed to work pretty well.

Oh and I want to see build pics of the strat and flying v :-)

Cheers Ben, looks interesting - looks less faff than a compressor / spray gun but have a bit of a concern about spitting... I'm a bit worried that my dad will want a sunburst on that strat too :)
I'll stick some pictures somewhere once it looks like I may not make a complete mess of it :) I'd love to see some of yours too once you go back to college!

Spitting's normally a problem with moisture content from what I understand. Try and pick a less humid day to do it :-)
There's some good sunburst tutorials on Project Guitar (I think). I tried the cardboard cutout/raised mask method on some scrap with spray cans and it actually turned out quite well.
Not working on a guitar atm but starting a long-neck, Pete Seeger style banjo build. Will take some pics when I actually make much progress.

I've seen that method - it looks appealing, and a little more controlled than just doing it freehand. I've been watching a few tutorials for 'bursts on youtube as well, as I'd like my Firebird to have one eventually (once I get around to it). I figured I'd do the strat first as it's probably the simplest of the three.
Actually, looking at the cost of those prevals, it's definitely worth a test. Thanks for the link.
A banjo is an awesome idea - I'm not sure I'd know where to start on that ..

I'm starting with the rim as it's the only tricky bit from what I can tell. The neck is fairly straightforward. I'm going to try doing some binding and maybe some fancy inlay on this which I've never attempted before.

Pretty happy with my bedroom setup, just decided I 'need' an octave pedal though. Doh!
I've got a one of these I don't use any more:
Not sure what they go for but if you're keen drop me a line and i'll dig it out.

Whoah. Big picture.

Thanks dooks, but I ended up finding a POG on eBay shortly after I posted that.

There are both awesome btw. Love the gold anodised alu pickguards. Looks great with sunburst and a naturally aged neck.

Is that a space invader machine?
-
• #1925
Yep.
I think I put photos on the video games thread.
It's an original cocktail cab that I restored, and put a pc in there with MAME and a Sega Genesis emulator.
I am not too sure of the pickups, but after a little search via google, they appear to be very similar, sorry i can't give you anymore on them. And the serial number is, JV01423. it'd be cool to find the real age if theres a chance its not 1984 :)
