Of brifters?
I have the R960s. They work just fine. And they're black. From what I hear, the PX ones only tick one of those boxes. I only bought them because my groupset acquisition happened pre Red Black, but I now feel that it would have been too black so happy with the path I took, grey chainrings and all.
Your keenness to swap out the front derailleur on your prospective Red acquisition to me seems pointless - reports may say it's 'better', be that stiffer or with an improved shifting action, but I have had precisely zero issues with my set-up so feel any improvement to be unimportant.
Extending that - having bikes with both Red and Force, I struggle to feel the difference between the two of them. Force does just fine, wins at bang for buck and uses less exotic components where it counts, no doubt ticking a 'longevity' box in a spreadsheet somewhere.
Have you seen my Giant since I put SRAM on it? Potentially similar to your (initial, deep-wheeled) vision for this build. Since I swapped out the pedals for Keo blades though, is stealthier than I want.
Thanks for that. I don't think I have seen it, but I didn't know you were swapping it for Force anyway. There definitely seem to be a lot more people who have had no Red front mech trouble than people who have. Was talking to digger about it tonight and he said there's never been a problem with a bike he's set up. I am starting to suspect people doing it wrong may be the explanation...
So one question still in my mind is are the R960s £50 better than Red Black calipers? They only weigh about 20g less or something.

It maybe worth your while taking a look at this article .. it's mainly discussing new Red but they test various combinations of old and new Red and also Dura Ace front mech with Red ..

Bet they're stiffer. As for better. Thats not really a straight forward question for brakes.
TRP stuff is always cheaper on Fleabay.
The TRP 970SL are 16g lighter again, are allegded to function equally well, and more importantly would look nicer on your bike.

Ah, yes, thanks - I'd read that. I measured my seat tube last night and it's 28.6mm so a DA front mech (available in that clamp size) is seeming like quite a good idea (sort of) at the moment.

I haven't decided yet, I don't want anything too heavy, would like something with good rolling resistance but don't want too many of those 'P' things. Not full on slicks but maybe something like the Vredestein Fortezza Quattro TriComp. Open to ideas!

True, but stiffer and lighter is better, I suppose.
Hmm, the TRP 970SL are nice and would look better on the bike, it being curvy and therefore lending itself less to the 'industrial' look of the R960s.

Hmm, my frame aside the R960s look better, are cheaper and have a better QR mechanism.
Ludwig, do these chaps definitely post to Inger-land?
The site being all auf Deutsch and confusing isn't helping me establish this.
They have the R960s for £172 which is very good.

.I love the look on my frame. But I wont claim to have taste. The QR looks flimsey but works great. I serviced the road bike a couple days ago, and noticed the red plastic QR lock is'nt really needed. The R970SL seem to have the same mechanism without it. The caliper centering bolt is a nice feature you wont find on all WW calipers.
Anyways they work great.

Yep. Probably 20 euros for calipers.
-
• #214
Oh, it does seem so but for 20 euros.
I am worried about ordering from the US/Taiwan and getting hit with import fees, hence my interest in purchasing within Schengenland.

Seen that before. FTR I tried to contact the guy and order the originals. But did'nt here anything.
They look nicer than TRPs too.
(ED: I've posted that link on here before too)

Well, a box full of SRAM Red components just arrived at my office :-)
Turns out I bought a FD clamp adaptor, which I didn't need. Fudge's website was pretty misleading. (I did try to figure it out via SRAM's website but couldn't find the relevant documents). Guess I'll have to return that, then.

Given the amount of black bits and that Hope free hub it's going to more #blackclicky than #whitewhine I hope...

Rich what size seat tube will your adapter fit? It's not 28.6mm is it?
-
• #221
Fox have you ordered cranks yet?
-
• #222
Nope. Mdcc_tester has persuaded me to just get the 170mm Red Black I think as they are fifty quid cheaper than 165mm.
Why?
-
• #223
Because they're not as good, obvs.

Nope. Mdcc_tester has persuaded me to just get the 170mm Red Black
Scheritt advised me to stick to 165mm cranks and as that's what I'm used to / feel comfortable with ...
Just a question from here Fox, but was that a fitting with Scheritt or just a discussion?
If it was a fitting do you not think it's better to follow the fitting advice as your position will change a little with a different crank length .. no fitting expert but I'd assume your saddle height would need to be lower by 5 mm too start with ..
^^I just snapped up the last pair. Thanks guys x
