Chris King hub story is ace.

It is difficult to not believe this conspiracy theory. Why would an intelligent man with so much to lose, go around raping people?

It's not quite as simple as him being accused of 'going round raping people', the rape case, from what I read of it at the time, is quite a complicated one.

It involves, as far as I can remember without reading it again because I can't be fucked, a Swedish woman during his visit there who was already a friend, and agreed to have sex with him on condition that he wore a condom. He then took it off and continued, when she found out and discussed it with another woman the next day it turned out he'd done the same with her, and they both went to the police, where they had difficulty getting their side of the story heard, as is often the case with rape victims.

I don't think he was even arguing the details of the case, but it went to trial and he got let off on some technicality or other. Either way, he came out of it very badly, as those accused of and trying lamely to argue their way out of rape cases tend to do.

I think it's offensive to claim the accusations are politically motivated, as as far as I know they were made 'before he was cool' and not related to the Wikileaks business.

Whether the calls for a retrial are politically motivated or not is the issue I think. It's a complicated issue - if there are inaccuracies in the rape trial, obviously he should face trial again because it's a serious accusation. If it's just a cover for him to be extradited to the US, which also seems likely, then obviously that's no good either.

But it's definitely one of those cases where no-one seems innocent and everyone is getting their hands dirty in some way - apart perhaps from the [alleged] rape victims, who really shouldn't be the ones actually taking flak for this.
