It has been suggested by many people that the rape charges are false and entirely to get him to Sweden so USA can then extradite him on Wikileaks charges. I believe it is also these suggestions that are influencing the Ecuadorian decision to assist.

Or on how much you know of the history of US foreign policy. It's not a theory, the US want Assange. Whether or not the allegations are fabrications, the US has had heavy involvement from the outset.Ecuador, and South America in general, have particular experience of the hard armed approach of the US. They are under no illusions as to the likely scenarios.
However, as previously mentioned, it would easier to be more bothered by this were it not Julian Assange at the centre of it.
