  • The city riding socks (the normal ones, not summer ones) are well nice, they're all soft and thick and will be good for winter methinks.

  • I don't know, I was wondering if the Rapha audience (that rides road bikes, I'm not talking about urban/commuting/transportation/leisure cycling) prefers to see people riding without a helmet.

When I see someone with no helmet on a mountain road my feeling is usually that he's not really knowing what he does. I agree it is certainly as stupid and arbitrary as thinking "What a badass". So I was wondering about why they do it, if it was viewed as more glamorous by the Rapha customers. AndyP's explanation about their product range is simpler though.

People do often choose to remove their helmets for a long climb, then put them on again for the descent.

  • ordered stuff on Thursday evening, arrived this morning

the seat of the city trousers does not look too conspicuously different

Yes the do! Especially in cream. The navy ones are cool. I suspect they'll become an issue with wear and the rest looking different from the Papier-mâchéd backside.

  • What is the practical difference between the wind jacket and the pro team jacket? It seems like the pro jacket is cut closer and is a bunch more spendy. Anything else?

One thing is the pro team cuts are specifically for riding. They don't look as good as the classic gear (or the wind jacket) off the bike.

  • Thanks for this info^

Sounds like the wind jacket is the one to get for winter riding. Nicer but not pricier.

  • I got a Gillet and a pack of 3 baselayers in the end.

This winter shall see my Endura jacket brought into action once more.

= I am too tight to replace it with something that fits.

  • I am now conflicted.

The pro team is more like the assos 851 jacket but thinner material

  • Anyone have any positive or negative experience with the windproof shirts? TTS?

  • DJ has one.

  • Search this thread for "windproof" and you will find some opinions as there has been some discussion of it already.

  • i love the windproof shirt, on a hot day can get away with a simple t shirt, and if it is a little cool in the evening put the shirt on and avoid the wind chill

it is shower resistant - i reproofed mine with grangers fluid and it is now even better at keeping water out for short periods

  • In that case I'm going to buy one.

  • Mission: Prepare for Winter.

The classic soft shell is, I believe, widely considered to be too warm unless the temperature has a - in front of it.

How about the Pro-Team jacket? Anyone got any experience of one?

softshell is a lovely piece of kit - but I found that last winter I only wore it 2-3 times. I think that when I commuted by bike it was a more useful item of clothing as I don't really get hot riding around town, but now that I walk to work everyday I find that its just too hot for anything except the coldest, coldest (sub -2) rides.

Have to say, that feeling of going out in such a warm jacket did keep me riding on the 2-3 days last year that it was that cold. We might even get a real winter this year and I'll wear it more.

  • = I am too tight to replace it with something that fits.

    Sorry...

  • Wear same old jacket year after year=afford bike parts.

  • Meh, who needs rainjackets anyway? I don't know about you, but my skin is waterproof.

  • Mine prunes something fierce :(

  • Sorry...

    apparently I must:

spread some Reputation around before giving it to edscoble again.

    go figure...

  • Mine prunes something fierce :(

puts wedge of gorgonzola back down

  • ordered stuff on Thursday evening, arrived this morning

Pics? With and without the trousers, pls.

  • Thinking about buying the Rapha trousers at 50 quid.

As someone who normally measures 31/30 I'm concerned at the one-size-doesn't-fit-all 34" leg. Why not reduce the length at smaller sizes, Rapha?

  • Pretty common for trousers only to be available in one long length.
It enables your tailor to then shorten them to the correct length.

You do have a tailor, right....?

  • I have a needle and thread, I guess!

  • Unlikely given the sale, but anyone got a valid code on non-sale items? Failed to pull the trigger when the TdF code was valid and now looks like it has expired :(

  • Anyone else get the secret santa Endura sale from CRC? 30% off but its not on the website
